The Camper Saga. Opened a can of worms or mice..

theres always going to be some thing that needs done,just part of owning a rv, fix those wires or they could short out and cause a fire . mice, use peppermint oil put drops in and around your rv, fill any hole you find .its all part of the fun.

Spray foam is great for filling mouse holes.

Is the leak current or old? Where is the furnace located? We have had water around/under our furnace twice: fridge drain line (on right of furnace) and a hot water fitting was dripping under our sink (on left of furnace). Neither were in the sub-floor or the furnace, that is just where the water ended up.

The fill neck can be patched if it is gravity fed. Our gravity fill is near our furnace and water sloshing around while driving might potentially end up under the furnace.

I think you should keep going. By the time you finish you will know the rig inside and out. You will also know the quality of work done and can be confident in the repairs. We bought ours new and, like anything else, need to maintain and fix it occasionally.

The wires are definitely on the to-do list. Short term- I am going to wrap them to protect them from stuff hitting them. If I can get in there I would like to heatshrink it. Not that it matters (wires are wires) but I think they go to the tank level sensors. Before attempting to fill, the gray tank was 0, after it sprayed out of the fill neck, it was 1/3. I opened the tanks and nothing came out. Checked yesterday after everything looked to have dried and the gray tank is back to 0.

Thanks for the tip of peppermint oil. The PO had mothballs everywhere. Still smells minty! lol

I will have to invest in some spray foam for when everything is done. The furnace is just below the fridge. The fill lines are on the opposite side from the furnace.

We just took ownership of it in Nov-Dec and have just now been able to go through it with the weather finally getting warmer. I believe it to be from the mice because of what I've seen already. When I connected the city water line, I could hear the water spraying out under the floor. I was hoping it was just above the bottom cover but no go.

The fill neck is gravity fed but the hole is about the size of a golf ball. I jokingly told the wife I would just double up on duck tape to fix it. :) She wasn't really happy about that or all of this really.

I can't say I am either but it's either fix this as we go or take a monthly payment on something else. If this only costs a couple hundred to fix what I've found so far. I can live with that.


Thanks for the motivation. I do agree with all of this forced learning. It isn't an ideal scenario since our first weekend with it is coming up in a couple weeks. Worst case is we wont have any water so not too bad.

Current plan- Remove furnace and cut a hole in the floor to look for leaking pipe.
I will be sure to post up some pictures since everyone likes those. I'll use this thread as a log for anyone interested.

Update!

Don't know what made me do it but after I removed the furnace, I started tapping on the floor. It sounded really solid. I went back underneath and poked around and felt some wires and tubes. I made the decision to cut the sheathing and found 2 clear lines!!

A trip to the hardware store for $23 in pex tubing and fittings. My brother and I got it done! Only problem now, I didn't realize we were missing so many plugs.

I'm not sure how helpful this is but.... GOOD WORK! Love bringing the old back to new. :) Had a very similar experience with our first TT. We bought it knowing it had spongey floor and some issues. Fixed them all up for less than $500.00, including replacing the floor and sold it 3 years later for more than what we paid.

Hope you are getting some enjoyment out of the preparation.

Just wondering out loud if there are any mice carcasses in the fresh water tank? That's a pretty big hole, and it wouldn't surprise me if they went in there.... They would get in, but would not be able to get out.
