Tire Pressure Monitors

Just bought expensive 5th wheel tires! What are some thoughts about tire Monitors?
There are a lot of them out there! Will I have to continuously replace lost and damaged sensors? Thanks

  • Welcome to the forum. When you post a new topic you need to choose the correct forum to post it in. This is not it. There are many posts on tire pressure monitors. Try the search function for a ton of them. I have TST 507 and am happy with their performance and great customer service. Started with flo thru and had to replace one because it stuck out past the rim and I hit it with the lawn mower. Now have regular and no problems.
  • My thoughts on tire monitors? I don't need them as I don't run those crummy Chinese trailer tires. My tires are Michelin XPS Ribs, a commercial truck tire. In 7 years of dragging large 5th wheels across the country, I've never had a tire issue.

My thought is that my USA LT tires had two flats, one with a valve stem leak and another with a nail, so I like my TPMS.
  • They're relatively cheap insurance. If I would have had them when I bought this toyhauler it would have saved some body damage. I've never lost a sensor.

Don't bother with spares either since flat tires are not an issue?
  • For the pre wearing you get, I don’t leave home without my TST507 working. Not running cheap tires either.
  • Just completed our first trip out with new TST507 and love the piece of mind it provides.. But, you will NEVER hear me say that you have to have one before leaving home because it is simply not true. You are buying piece of mind, like you did when you bought those fancy tires (me too, FYI).

I had purchased the TST501 "on sale" last fall from an online source (irrelevant). I installed it and couldn't get one of the sensors to work due to dead battery out of box. When I worked with TST to get replacement and ask about warranty on a less-than-3-month sensor, she asked for the date code on sensor. Turns out sensor was built in 2013 (5 years old when i got them 'new' on sale). After discussing nicely with a lovely support person at TST, I exchanged my "not-so-new" TST501 for a new TST507 model. I used the 501 for one trip, and have now used the 507 on one trip. In my opinion the 507 is a much superior product for many reasons (one being I couldn't read the 501 screen without removing my sunglasses).

Customer support on the TST was phenomenal and efficient and I promised to say that as often as possible so thanks for letting me. LOL
  • I have used the TST systems since they first came out, they were good then and have got so much better over the years. Any tire pressure monitoring system will probably work and give you information about your tires while your moving or stopped and sitting. I suggest at least giving TST a call and see what they might have on sale and for sure answer any question you might have.
  • The TST system is good but...there is up to an hour lag time from the moment a sensor loses contact with the monitor, before the monitor tells you about it. Plus if the sensor reconnects within that hour you'll never know that it was out of contact.

I've never been able to figure out why they don't fix that excessive time lapse. It can't be that hard to do. I would think 10-15 minutes, or less, would be plenty.
