One thing to remember is that manufacturer tow ratings are very 'creative'. My truck has a fifth wheel towing capacity of ~16K lbs but my payload capacity it topped out with my 10K trailer. My rear axle would be at maxed out at ~13k lbs.

IMO, it's much better for one to understand GCWR, GVWR, and RAWR and calculate their own towing capacity than to reply on the manufacturer's tow ratings.

Yeah, posts like some of these are used for cartoons on some of the trucking forums that use the same trucks to make their living.

IMO any of the newer one ton DRW will do the job.

Rather than telling some one what size truck they should get I would rather give them options of what will work for a 14k-15k trailer.

Of course a one ton DRW with those big 9600-9800 lb RAWR will have plenty load capacity for that size trailer.

Also some of the one ton SRWs have around 4500 lbs of payload like say a '13 and up 3500 SRW Ram with a 13400 GVWR and 7000 lb RAWR.

Some F350 SRW 11500 GVWR over a 4k payload however cab selection are a std cab 2wd/etc.

The '13 and up GM SRW 4x4 extended cab long bed Dmax/A shows a 11600 GVWR and a 7000 RAWR with around 4200-4300 lb payload.

And all you have to do is choose !! :) Good luck

LMAO......most 150/1500 trucks are rated to tow over 10,000 lbs these days with half the models rated at more than 11,000 lbs. I guess there is no use grossing 80,000 lbs with the Peterbilt when it would be much safer at 65,000.

Most new TV a 2500 will easily handle a 10,000# 5er, you don't see DRW territory until the GVWR of the 5er approaches 14,000 to 15,000#.

I comfortably pull a 12,500# GVWR 32' 5er with a 2001 Ram 2500. Yes, over the GVWR of the TV, but well within the tire and axle ratings. Newer TV have much higher payloads. look at the GVWR and Payload ratings of the TV you are looking at.

I had my heart set on getting a Dually, and a majority of you folks, from reading this post, recommend them, but for the few that don't, you have some interesting points. I do wonder about parking etc. especially here in Oz.

We just bought a F350 dually diesel in anticipation of a new fifth wheel toy hauler.... Have to pay down the TV first!

We wanted to be safe and all of that. I didn't want to limit my travels or anything, so we got the dually.
