Maxxis doesn't have all that good of a reputation in the reliability department.......
I found this to be an interesting quote.
It wasn't that long ago that Maxxis was reported to have no problems at all - the bright new kid on the block. My how times have changed.
I would propose that everyone be skeptical of any new tire until a fair amount of time has passed.
Maxxis is not a new kid on the block. They have been around for many years. They have a lot of tire plants in many countries including their Thailand plant that for a long time was the only place that they produced their M8008ST special/sevice trailer tire.
I created this weight of tires list several years ago. The M8008ST is in a different league than the run of the mill ST tires and is not one of what I call the BUNCH of 35 pounders.
1. Michelin XPS RIB LT235/85R16 LRE (rated to 3042lbs) Weight 55.41
2. Goodyear G614 LT235/85R16 LRG (rated to 3750lbs) Weight 57.5
3. Bridgestone Duravis R250 LT235/85R16 LRE(rated to 3042lbs) Weight 60
4. BFG Commercial TA LT235/85R16 LRE(rated to 3042lbs) Weight 44.44
5. Uniroyal Laredo HD/H LT235/85R16 LRE(rated to 3042lbs) Weight 44.44
6. GY Marathon ST235/80R16 LRE(rated to 3420lbs) Weight 35.4
7. Maxxis ST235/80R16 LRD 3000 lb rating at 65 lbs of air weights 38.58
8. Maxxis ST235/80R16 LRE 3420 lb rating at 80 lbs of air weights 43.43
9. Duro 2100 ST235/80R16 LRE 3520 rating at 85 lbs of air weights 35.5
10. TowMax ST235/80R16 LRE 3420 lb rating at 80 of air weighs 35
The M8008ST seems to be one of the better ST tires available, and many people swear by them, however they do rot, crack and fail at times within what would a good 3-5 year life cycle.
One of the down sides is they are not a tire that you can find on the rack in tire stores across the country and have to be ordered in most cases.
