toy tote for hauling motorcycle on my 5th wheel

Does anyone have the toy tote for hauling my motorcycle on the back of my fifthwheel and do you like it or recommend it?

  • We use a Swivelwheel 58DW. I added a Rampage lift to it after using it one summer. Towed it about 5000 miles so far. Custom welded hitches about 6 feet up the 12 inch I beam.

For your weight, I highly recommend the 2 wheel version over the single wheel.

There are far more expensive options.
  • Howdy!

If your looking for a Tote the very best one in my opinion is the Idaho Tote. I used it for seven years of fulltiming to carry a Yamaha Rhino on and then two years we carried a Smart Car. Well built with 14" or 15" tires not the small swivel wheels type.
Its more expesive but you get what you pay for.

This would be a bit more expensive but I saw an ad for a new 5th wheel with a "toy hauler" option that was NOT the garage in the back. It was a 36 sq ft street side slideout that could be configured as a bunk house, office or motorcycle garage. As the garage it came with an electric lift rated for 1000 pounds that lifts the motorcycle from the ground into the garage. (looked like an Ultra Classic in the photo).

  • A bit more expensive??!! I think we're talking some really big dollars there. :) Very nice looking but I'll bet those things weigh a whole bunch, and cost even more.

That side loading garage is pretty cool, but there'd have to be some serious underpinnings to hold the weight of a big bike when the slide is out.

  • Met a couple hauling their bike on a smart trailer. They had a custom hitch added to the 5er that tied into the frame and looked pretty stout. I think he said the weight was 50/50

  • I used the Smart Trailer to haul our 2 bikes. Mine had the 2 wheels at the rear because of the amount of weight it carried.

We had no issues with it, but switched to a toyhauler after a couple years. The toyhauler is just so much easier to load and unload, and we don't have to worry about being stopped by a LEO. But, AFATG, we never were stopped and we traveled through, and in, several states that don't allow double towing.

It's easy to travel with though. You have to remember it's back there and watch the tail swing. We had a camera back there to keep an eye on things, just in case. It did make backing up a non-issue.

    As always of course, YMMV.
  • Motorcycle weights 800 lb they claim the purpose of the swivel wheel under the center of the platform is to distribute the weigh evenly and not to overload tongue weight. What I'm looking for is the comparison between the swivel under the center or the swivel wheel at the back of the platform. Was wondering if anyones has either one of these units (toy tote or cruise lift swivel wheel) to give me their input on pulling it behind my 5th wheel.

Beware that many states that consider an attached swivel-wheel platform a "trailer" and would constitute a double-tow, therefore illegal. Be sure to check before you spend the $$ on one.

  • How much does the motor cycle weigh? Just curious. The tongue weight for a hitch on the back of a Class C might be about 600 lbs. I doubt the frame of a 5er could handle that weight. Just guessing.
