Mostly it's because the LT tires will end up having slightly less capacity that the axles. Not usually a problem if you're able to go from D's to E's, though there aren't many trailers that are delivered with 16" D-rated tires. Had I a bit more room in my wheel wells, I'd've probably converted to LT's a long time ago.
