truck trailer weight

Also...hit the manual for your year / model /config. I just
reviewed mine...

8100 V8 - Axle ratio- 4.10, 2500HD Crew Cab Short box 2WD :
Max trailer weight: 15,300 #'s, GCWR 22,000 #'s. "Fifth wheel kingpin
weight should be 15-25% of trailer weight".

so, bottom line... read the manual....lots of caveats re: safety.

Chevy says the 2500 has a 6200 RAWR. And a 5200-5600 FAWR depending on cab selection.
Also depending on cab selections the 2500 can tow 14700 lb up to a 17800 lb 5th wheel trailer.

Your well under your trucks FAWR and right at the trucks RAWR and well under your tow rating. You have 20" E tires and wheels which are OEM on the 3500 SRW truck so ... Looks like and good match.

17" wheels??
265/17-17E rate at 3,195, that would support 6,490# on the rear axle. Within tire and axle ratings.

axles 6,200 rear
5,200 Front (SWAG)

that would be 11,400#, that is getting too close for me.

Well if one is concerned with GVWR of a pickup, then that is the reason to buy the 3500 SRW vs the 2500! Same truck with few changes except badges, placard and rear springs or spacers!

I have the Chevy equivalent and it has a GVWR of 10,000 which you are over and a RAWR of 6200 which you are just below. As mentioned above, door sticker will tell you your ratings for your truck.

As far as I know, all 250/2500 max out at 10k GVWR. So you're over that rating. The rear axle on most 250/2500 will max out at about 6k or 6,100, so you're over that too, but not by much. I would suggest you check your tire rating. Without getting into the whole spiel about the 2500 axle actually being the same as a 3500 axle, your tires should be your main worry. If you're okay on tires, I wouldn't sweat over it any more. Your truck will handle that fine IMHO.

Look on your door post for the following information.
GVWR currently 10,954
FAWR currently 4,806
RAWR currently 6,128

If those numbers are less than your door sticker you are fine.

You will have to weight the truck by itself to get the actual trailer weight. Example: If the truck by itself weighs 8,000 subtract that from 10,954 which would give 2,954 pin weight. Add the pin to the trailer axles for the trailer weight, in this example the trailer weighs 12,213.

There is a sticker on your driver side doorpost with your truck payload limit. What does that say?
