Two Tire Questions

People like this is what has caused me to rarely visit this site anymore. Which is a shame because there's a wealth of good people with some good advice available.
But this is just a smart you know what answer with no use what so ever. I think she made a good legitimate post that is perfectly sensible. Then comes the know it all resident troll to try and belittle someone.

She has a valid point as its been my personnel experience with Goodyear they have a poor track record when it comes to honoring their tire warranty. And when we look around on different websites that a trailer is the prime vehicle its the same.
Hell I've had Goodyear actually tell me they would not honor any more of their new tire warranties on my road trailers. They were glad to sell me 28 of their tires but didn't like replacing them when they failed.

You are correct! On pre 07 they did have problems. Since then they have been very trouble free tires.

I may have been a bit cranky there….sorry!

But if you have had good luck with something then why change?

Goodyear does not state a specific replacement age for RV tires because there are many conditions that dictate a tire's life span. Some factors that influence how long a tire will last are:

Usage per year - more frequent usage will result in longer life
Vehicle storage practices (6 months loaded with little or no rotation is not good!)
Usage in warmer climates can also impact a tire's overall life due to greater extreme ozone exposure


Sidewall Weathering

Weather cracking is a naturally occurring condition that results from exposure to heat and sunlight. Goodyear's warranty for weather cracking is four years from purchase date (or four years from manufacture date if proof of purchase is not available).

Weather cracking is common in RV tires from all manufacturers.

Appears as crazing and or cracking in the flex area of the sidewall
Probable causes of sidewall weathering
— Long periods of inactivity or storage
— Direct exposure to air and sunlight
— Exposure to high levels of ozone (smog, electrical generators)
— Excessive washing or dressing using alcohol or petroleum based cleaners

When should the tire be replaced?

Cracks > 2/32" deep
Internal components of tire (steel or fabric body plies) are visible

Without evidence of weather cracking, use the following as a gauge:

Usage per year --More frequent usage will result in longer life
Vehicle storage practices (6 months loaded with little or no rotation is not good!)
Casing quality --Absence of repairs, liner wrinkles, weather cracking, sidewall scuffs or cuts.

......So far, Sailun tire reports have been good from those who have purchased them and have kept us up to date with how they've performed for them....

Wow...is this really the expected lifespan of trailer tires? I have LRG Goodyears on my 2014 Cedar Creek, and I was expecting to get the 10 year lifespan that is normal on past motorhomes with 22.5" Michelins. My rigs live in a garage when not traveling and protected with 303, so no sun abuse. Is there that much difference in the quality of trailer tires?

"living in a garage", and using 303, isn't going to get you 10 year's out of your GY tires that come on your 5er...22.5" Michelins on a MoHO isn't really going through the same as 4 to 6 ST or LT tires on a 5th wheel.

You can do the research and see what the manufacturer of the ST or LT tires recommend( ie, GY G614 RST, and I believe you'll see that one would be really "pushing the limits" to the nth degree if they're trying to get 10 years out of their 5er tire...May or may not work on a lighter 5er, but talking GVW's of 10,000 -12,000# and up, believe one would be pushing their luck to get 10 years out of the tires no matter how good they "look"...
