Voltage owners. Wood under the slide outs?

Looking at a Voltage 3950 and i noticed that on their slide outs, on the underside of them, the wood is exposed under the slides. THeres this black wood that is not sealed anywhere.

Its a dutchmen and i know they are the best, but that kind of concerned me. Anyone else noticed this?
Every other rv either had this black plastic wrap, or a hard plastic that was sealed.
  • I have a Voltage 3950. The wood is not an issue - it doesn't get wet.

The Schwintek slides took a couple of hours to set up initially but have worked fine since.

Our unit is three years old - one of the apparently "awful" 2011s. We've used it for about 300 nights and put about 30K miles on it.

People who don't own them love to bash them. We love ours.
  • I too had my heart set on a voltage. Beautiful looking units!! But that wood on the slides and their other shortcomings (slide issues etc.) is one reason I have not purchased one yet. I went to Holmans and the salesman pointed this out, his main point, and I had to agree was "do you want this rig sitting at the dealer for repairs or do you want to be using your rig". He was pointing me to a cyclone, and when I compared them, the cyclone was a better unit. You need to look and compare these units carefully before purchasing one. I just wish cyclone would start using the frameless windows. They all have their shortcomings and I know there are members here that have no problems with their voltages but these units are large investments and we should be happy with our decisions. JMHO.

    Howdy!

When I looked at the Voltage slide I noticed screws protruding from under the slide and when I ran my hand along that area notice what appeared to be saw dust or partical board dust coming out. That was a NO GO for me. I have a neighbor that has the Schwintek slide motors in his and he and others have had nothing but problems with them. Another NO GO. Would not even consider any RV with Schwintek slide motors.

    This is getting ridiculous.

I think im going back to the road warrior, or looking at a cyclone....
Now, if i can just get the salesman to not mess around id be good to go.

That was a NO GO for me. I have a neighbor that has the Schwintek Lippert slides in his and he and others have had nothing but problems with them. Another NO GO. Would not even consider any RV with Schwintek Lippert slides. The Cyclone has hydraulic slides and the bedroom is a cable slide.

  • I wouldn't buy one. Obviously I have an older one but I wouldn't touch a newer one.

That and slide motor problems is just one of many reasons we went with Cyclone 4000. I looked at Voltage and Cyclone on the lot side by side and with out a dought Cyclone won out. We're waiting on delivery of our Cyclone 4000 now.

I thought dutchmen voltage was the end all of toy haulers...
