I'm looking at buying a gently used Avion Westport 5er. On the back there is a sticker that lists a number and underneath says "Rocky Mountain Unit". I remember seeing something similar on my grandparent's RV, but it had something to do with their Good Sam membership. Does anyone know what "Rocky Mountain Unit" means? Is this an indication that the 5er is a 4-season unit, or just a membership number?

Its probably just a marketing sticker, that unit might have a few non-standard options that were bundled for that package. Here in the Pacific NW I see "Northwest Edition" on different units to signify the "might" be better equipped for winter or as is often the case they slap on some diamond plate up front to deal with rocks. With the year you might be able to google for a brochure that has more info.

I Googled it before posting and it didn't help. Found an owners manual from a 1995 and "Rocky Mountain Unit" wasnt listed for that particular model year. The one I'm looking at is a 1997.

My take is that it means nothing of any substance.Graphics, interior decor, stuff like that.We, like MitchF150 had a Fleetwood Prowler, "Northwest Edition," that was no different that any other Fleetwood Prowler except graphics.

Avion was originally started up in the 1950's with a goal to build a trailer that was better than Airstream, which was the king of the road back then. One part of competing with Airstream was to create their own owners' club, which they named "Avion Travelcade", and intended to match up with Airstream's Wally Byam club. My guess is that the sticker with a number and 'Rocky Mountain Unit' refers to the trailer's membership number and organizational unit within the "Avion Travelcade" club. Interesting history for this company, and if you are a fan of vintage trailers, a good one to get your hands on. Interesting to note that Avion offered a lifetime warranty for the original owner... not something you'd ever see today.

I think that it's not as much a mystery after all. I did check with a friend that used to pull an Airstream back in the day and was a member of their Wally Byam Caravan Club. He recalled that Avion's club did have a Rocky Mountain unit, as well as an Ohio unit, an Indiana unit, etc. Definitely tilts this towards the likelihood that the sticker you're seeing is related to membership in Avion's Travelcade club. Hope the rig is all that you're wanting it to be. If it's in decent shape, it could be a real find.
