- humblerbExplorerThanks for the replies.
I've learned that late model, low mileage used 3/4 tons are few and far between. Can step down a package level and buy new for less than the used I've found.
My storage building (on my land) is length restricted, so we'll be able to keep the pin weight well below vehicle rating.
Truck will be a daily driver and camping is a 6-7 times per year deal for us. So the 3/4 ton with the 6.5 bed is probably my target.
Need to check out the slider hitches when the time comes.
Thanks for the recommendation on the B&W.
Thanks again. - IdaDExplorerGet a FW with good cargo space because you'll lose a lot of your bed. Beyond that you'll love the way it tows - much nicer than a TT. 3/4 ton or SRW 1 ton is mostly about the badge on the fender and/or compensating for something little in your jeans. They're generally the same or very close to the same, so I'd just make sure you've got the heavy rated wheels/tires and get the best deal you can. Up to the point where you need a DRW, anyway - 4 rear tires versus 2 is a meaningful upgrade.
- TimnJoExplorerX5 for the one ton, also the long bed, much more usable space especially if you add an auxiliary tank (the BEST upgrade I have ever opted for; can always shop around for best fuel price and never have to worry whether I can get in, or out of, a gas station). If buying new, or nearly new, get one with the OEM 'puck' under-bed mounting system; no rails to interfere when you take the hitch out.
B&W Companion hitch, good, sturdy hitch that easily comes apart so one person can remove it. - pennysmom09Explorer

Get a 1 ton.
The new price difference is minimal, and used you can probably get it cheaper than a three quarter ton.
X2. Then no need to worry about airbags or wondering if you are near your limit, and going up and down mountains gives no second thoughts. - mhardinExplorerI've had f150s, f250s and now on my second f350. Go ahead and step up to the 1 ton. Not much more in cost and you get more truck with better resale. It's better to have too much truck as opposed to not enough truck. Oh! I almost forgot, get the Diesel.
- WeldonExplorerWhat size fifth wheel? Weight? Don't sell the 3/4 ton short. Add another leaf spring to the 3/4 and you may be just fine.
- Dayle1Explorer II1) It is very ez for a loaded fiver's pin weight to exceed a 3/4 ton truck's GVWR. So you either decide to ignore GVWR and pay attention to GAWR or you restrict available fiver choices or you move to 1 ton.
2) When turning, a fiver cuts inside the truck more than a TT, so take turns wide and slow.
3) When backing, a fiver is slower to react to steering changes, so you will need more room for maneuvering. - azdryheatExplorerYou won't even know the wind is blowing with the 5th.
- rhagfoExplorer IIIGas Or diesel?
If diesel skip the 3/4 Ton sand go straight to a one ton for necessary payload. - donn0128Explorer IIGet a 1 ton.
