wheel chocks

I am thinking about buying a pair of x-wheel chocks. And i would like to know. When i unhitch can i use this product instead of plastic chocks to steady the wheels? In this case i have two uses, one is unhooking and hooking and two, stablizing the trailer when i parked it at a camping park. Thanks
  • Remember when your warm tires cool off the x-chocks could get loose and your rig could roll. I know my x-chocks will get loose especially in warm weather, I always check them after the tires cool off.
  • The OP mentioned X chocks not Roto Choks.
X-chocks needs wedges at wheels. I know from first hand experience X chock will allow wheels to roll.
    I cannot speak for Roto-Choks.

Okay, I'll be the dissenting opinion. :) I use just Roto-Choks on both sides, nothing else. I did mess up once and try to pull the 5th wheel with the Roto-Choks still in place. Couldn't figure out why the darn thing wouldn't move. I did succeed in sliding the tires a foot or so before I figured out what the problem was.

After that I didn't worry about using any chocks but the Robo-Choks. :)

    Me 2
I have never used wedge chocks since I got RotoChoks.

I might consider using wedges as a insurance back up IF I am camping on a 45% grade
  • I use the yellow and X chocks. If you've never had your trailer roll when you didn't want it to you haven't lived
  • We park, first thing (ON) is the roto chocks, then everything follows. That is if the unit is level side to side. JMHO
  • It looks like I've been doing it wrong for the past 11 years as I use my Rotochoks when hitching/unhitching and leave them on when at a site to try to help minimize movement. I don't see the need for yellow chocks when the tires are locked together with the Rotochoks.

  • I use both. Your going to love the Roto type chocks, they really improve fore and aft movement.
  • IIRC it stated on the box that they should be used in conjunction with the plastic chocks, not in place of.
They definitely help front to back movement and make my TT feel more stable.
  • No Sir, not the best idea to use X-chocks or Roto-chocks in place of wheel chocks. Use WHEEL chocks (Example yellow ones) on both sides, in front and rear of wheels, prior to unhooking RV.

Unhook, than fine tune your leveling.

After all your up and down, side to side movement is finished, apply X-chocks or Roto-chocks to help stabilize your RV. These types of chocks were designed to help "stabilize" your RV. They were NOT designed to be used in place of wheel chocks. Safe travels to you.
