Winnebago Destination 37FL Rust

I purchased from La Mesa RV in Port Saint Lucie, Florida, a brand new, ordered, 5th wheel from Winnebago. The trailer did not come in as ordered so, La Mesa incorrectly installed a washer and dryer and second air conditioner. Those items have finally been corrected to the best of the repair persons ability. The main problem is a rusted frame from Lippert Compenents. I will try to add photos from my phone to this post later. Has anyone had this problem. I want Winnebago to replace my unit. I believe that I custom ordered a new trailer and I want a new trailer. I do not believe a rusty frame constitutes a new trailer. Winnebago service manager has told me, "What do I want, it's only an RV". Yes its an RV with a MSRP of over $!!),000. I want a RV that is not rusted. I have called Johnny Martinez, president of Winnebago Towables, no return call. I have called Randy Potts, president of Winnebago International, no return call. PLEASE HELP. We are retired, 71 years old and wanted to travel in a great 5th wheel to see what we can before we are too old to do so. I fell horrible that this is what I got from Winnebago. I feel cheated and lied to by representatives of Winnebago.

  • If it's surface rust the dealer should take care of it. A little sanding, a good primer with rust inhibitor and a couple coats of paint and you'll be good for about 10 years. Surface rust is mostly a cosmetic problem.

If the rust has eaten holes in the frame, that's another story. A replacement would be warranted.

You need to send a registered letter with signature receipt. Send a letter to each of the executives and one to the general manager of La Mesa. Include photos. The letters will give you a paper trail in case you decide to go to court. Be sure to write down everything you are told with dates and times for each contact.
