- buc1980ExplorerMy FW come with 8 cu ft and I don't have room to install a bigger refrigerator. The extended stay I plan for 3-4 month at the time.I think that will be only 2 people in the RV.I like to buy another one but when you retire that too much.
- GoPackGoExplorerSince you're on the full timing forum -
I said 'no way' when ordering my 5th wheel. I got the bigger double door model. I don't want to continually run an ice chest - means I need to get ice all the time.
My opinion - Things are different between 'camping' and 'full timing'. I never had an ice chest in my house so I don't have one in my 5th wheel. I carry more 'stuff' in my fridge then if I was camping for even a week or two.
Now I do like them for outside use when folks are sitting around the campfire. Just not as a full-time cooler to have instead of a larger fridge.
And the big variable is how many people are on your trips. More people may equal the need for a big fridge.
Tim - NYCgrrlExplorerI guess it depends on how many people you'll be traveling with and how you cook/store food. The TT I want comes with a 3.5 cubic ft fridge and I think that'll be adequate for 2 people over 7-14 days. I'll supplement it with a tiny chest freezer since quite a bit of cooking ahead. When camping I use the "fridge" for leftovers and fresh foods but I do a lot of meal planning in advance to assure little winds up in the garbage can. No more 8 different varieties of mustard when I camp, LOL.
- TucsonJimExplorer IIWe have an 8 cubic foot Atwood fridge, and it works fine for us for about 10 days. We don't store any soft drinks or beer in there. We use an ice chest for that.
- MootpointExplorerIt would depend on how long you call an extended stay. If we're away from supplies we get more dried and can goods.
If we're near a store we shop every few days and the fridge is more than adequate.
I find cold drinks can take up a large amount of space so it can be take one out put one in.
