Address Questions PMB and such

I would like for this to be answered by SD residents but others with PMB #s in there address are welcome to answer. I am a resident of SD and have read a lot of posts about how to use the # instead of PMB and per AR out of Sioux Falls the use of Apt. is not liked by the post office.

I do have a address in Brandon SD where I intend to return to and that address is also my voting address. I have also used that address for my residence for some government agencies but use the PMB for mailing.

So that said I seem to have some issues with the PMB part of my address.

Here are the issues:

Can not purchase a firearm from a retailer, the retailer called the firearms folks who said the PMB and the voters registration are not good to buy a firearm. I need a government issued ID card with a physical address and photo on it.

Fishing license or hunting license because the PMB is not recognized as a good address and the laws for residency and hunting or fishing licenses are different.

The SD drivers licensing folks insist that the PMB be on the license however I did at one time have the Brandon address on the drivers license.

I am also in Custer County SD for the summer but my PMB is in Sioux Falls I am considering changing my address to Custer as that would solve some of the issues but not sure of any other problems that may cause or if I could with out issues.

So my questions is what are you doing to buy firearms and game licenses? Assuming you like to fish and target shoot.

Looking forward for some ideas and they need to be legal

JimR.

The PMB is already on the drivers license, when filling out the papers for the drivers license I did put the # XXXX but the clerks will change that to PMB with earnest.

Thinking about using the address here in Custer but no utility bills just mail.

    Hi folks

A concealed carry permit is not an issue if you provide something that you stayed 30 days in the state my issue is I am not in my residence county, Minnehaha.

    Voting is working.

Buying a firearm (Henry 22 lever rifle) is a no go and getting a fishing License with the PMB is not good, per Game, Fish and Parks.

Some times I feel somewhat like a lesser class citizen and will be here for over 6 months.

Thank You for the reply but the assumption about the Brandon address is not correct as I do not own any property in SD but I do stay there and do return there. The Brandon address is where I first landed when I came into SD and at this time Minnehaha County is my county of residence.

I guess the question should be does the Mail Service you use in SD use PMB numbers? That seems to be the big issue. In your case you had something that showed an apartment number and that seemed to work. However AR out of Sioux Falls says the Apt instead of the PMB is frowned on by the post office.

You are correct regarding use of Apt in place of PMB. We have used a mail service in Florida for two years. We have a PMB and the physical address of the mail service which is on our driver's license, bank statements, Credit cards. We have had no issues whatsoever with investments, banking, Concealed carry permit, etc... When we applied for the voter registration card, the voter registrar used the courthouse address in our PMB city as our voting address. I can't tell you why, but it's what they did and seems to work.

  • I appeared in person at the Madison driver's license facility. While there you must present bank statement, utility bill or first class mail with your address on it. Mine that I presented said "Apt. 324" so that is what is on my license. If you can not do that then why not use the Brandon address, as I assume you own property there, pay local taxes on it,etc. and vote there (your residence is there, legally, if you vote there!). You can file a mail forwarding with the post office so that your hunting and fishing license and firearms registration when sent there are forwarded to you via the AR address.
