We're in a similar situation and full-time out of Texas. We were covered by Cobra for $1100 a month until this past January. I couldn't find anything nationwide for under $1900 a year, so we took an HMO for $1000 a month and are basically self insured as we travel. If something major non-emergency comes up, we'd have to go back to TXfor treatment. We may consider changing states as I don't see things getting better.
