Insurance for full time

I could not find anything in the other posts about this subject. So we giving up the stick a bought a Starcraft Solstice 377RDEN to live on my daughters land with all the hook-ups. We are not planning on too much travel yet we are waiting to retire to hard it hard. My question does the insurance company need to know we are living in it full time ? any insight is great.

Call your insurance Co. as if you are a brand new customer to avoid identifying yourself in case you don't get the answer you want to hear. Just my guess, it dosen't make a difference because you are still paying for your insurance monthly either way.
  • Some Insurance company's that have home, car and RV in a bundle. Will say on the contract for the RV it is part time, or vacations.

Full Time RV Insurance company's cover you traveling or sitting. With liability if anyone gets hurt falling on your steps etc.

Good Sam(National General) also lets you drop some of the coverage not needed when sitting for long periods.
  • Any time you commit fraud you are rolling the dice, whether it be cheating on your taxes or withholding information from your insurance company so as to pay less money than you should be. If you get auditied by the IRS or need to file an insurance claim you could be screwed. All depends on how the dice rolls.
  • Yes, you need to tell your insurance company/broker as some, if not the majority, of insurers will NOT cover you for full time living in an RV. It's pretty risky to try and get away with not disclosing this information to your insurer. If you have an incident and need to claim, your insurer will likely find out about your FT status and potentially decline your claim.

Also, be prepared for bit of sticker shock with respect to your insurance premium.

    Cheers!

  • Since you no longer have a stick home you no longer have insurance on your belongings (stuff) Or liability "full-tiime "ins covers those things like your home did. For example ...If it burns down they will replace it , but not your stuff or your liability.. that said people go without all the time can you afford the "risk" ?

Mine only went up a small amount.
  • Full Time Insurance (just like one would have for their S&B House) plus personal property, custom installed equipment, medical, hotel (if rig was in for repairs, towing, and agreed replacement value on our 5th wheel was less than $800 per year.

    National Interstate Ins.
They specialize full timers coverage for RVs

    Check/get quote via a Agent/Broker
    Explorer RV
    Millers Ins.

IF you are living in it, it is your HOME.
Get Home Owners Ins. to cover your home....not auto/trailer ins that is NOT going to cover your loss should something happen
It is your home.....act like it
  • Rates will depend on your state of domicile, so check around. You might want to go ahead and do some traveling to a state where you can establish residency and get a better insurance rate.
