Please keep in mind: There is NO OTA (over the air) connect that is truly secure. Though it's unlikely, a 5th grader with a bit of tech savvy can hack you.

I would guess you are correct. BUT . . .

I am one of the ex-millenicom people and 20G for $100 is what Verizon offered us when we signed up. I was under the impression that this was a little cheaper then the 'normal' Verizon plans. I know plan offerings change daily so maybe this is now a standard plan.

Still, I would agree that a Verizon MiFi and the plan of your choice would be a good option for you. Not trying to offend anyone but Verizon seems to have the most coverage when traveling around the US of A.

Since I travel extensively for both my hobby job i have for several years had a mobile hotspot from Sprint(Netgear) and AT&T (Sierra). This is my internet source at home as well--no cable, dish, phone or any of that stuff--not there enough to need/justify it. Two years ago I landed in Congress AZ--no signal on anything. Neighbors in Escapees North Ranch assured me that Verizon is the only game in town. Wemt to Wickenburg, got a good deal on Verizon's Jetpack mobile hotspot. Now I am very rarely without internet access.

iPhone can do all we need to do most of the time. Otherwise, connect iPad to iPhone via Bluetooth or wifi and do more. Laptop will connect to iPhone also.

If the campgrounds has WiFi and it works, use it.
Just don't do any banking while connected that way.
Nor any ordering that requires you to input a credit card number.

We also use the VERIZON MIFI along with our Verizon Cell Phone plan. Verizon has been our best carrier to use in the out of way places we camp at...

This produces a secure WIFI HOTSPOT which I can use up to five of our WIFI enabled devices to use. It is password protected to keep other RV'ers from using it...

We check in with kids, pay some bills, do some surfing of the internet, and use less than our 3GB DATA PLAN per month. This does not allow us do any downstreaming of TV or MOVIES etc as those usually use around 1GB per hour of use.

We used Jetpack with our Verizon plan. It worked very well for us - even in the boonies.

We use our Verizon cell phones and FoxFi to access internet. It does use our data but we have a grandfathered unlimited plan.

Yes, libraries are safe. Just remember to check the url for https if you are doing anything requiring security and privacy. I will also use starbucks, McDonald's, and other places with free wifi.455
