Hi,

Cost for satellite internet is more expensive than using a cell phone as a hotspot. Latency issues make SI quite problematic and speeds are similar to dial up.

It requires a dedicated dish that has to be aimed.

We've had Verizon for 9 years - have a MiFi now in addition to smart phone. Use about 15G per month for 1 laptop, 1 tablet, 1 smartphone (plus one old flip-flop). Mostly email, web browsing, a few U-tubes, plus we have a blog?

We FTd for 7 yrs.

Verizon was our cell phone provider AND Internet via 'air card' we slid into Laptop. Later on it was replaced with a 'USB' stick. Both had external antenna plug which we used when in areas where signal strength was weak.

That set up was 'old school'.....now there are better means of connecting to Internet which use cell phone provider(s) vs satellite

You've probably seen Hughes Net ads on TV. It can provide a solution if you need access from anywhere, but it's pretty expensive. These days, most people use some form of "MiFi" solution. About the cheapest of these is https://www.straighttalk.com/wps/portal/home/shop/otherdevices/hotspot. It's fine for some email and a little web browsing. If you're thinking of streaming video on the road, that's not happening for a few more years.

Verizon and the Jetpack.

I use Sprint and PDANet - need cell access. Really works well. Can also turn your cell phone into a wireless hub so multiple pc's can access over your phone connection.

Hughes Net, DishNet, Exede, etc., are all spot beamed services limited to relatively small geographical areas. None of them make it easy to change service locations, making them not suited to mobile RV'ers. RV'ers with seasonal or other long-term sites might find them worthwhile though, if no other option is available.
