I have had acrylics for about 8 years now for the same reasons. When away, I find a nail salon. I bring my own files, nippers, buffer and polish. I once tried to do it myself with my husband - don't waste your money. It is difficult to get it right without them looking thick. I go every 3 weeks and have never not been able to find a nail salon.
