Proof of residency for insurance

I know Sanford and DakotaCare also have a residency requirement. Avera does not, but also doesn't have as good of plans.

Thanks for all you thoughts. I think we will be fine by staying with Humana. I had read about troubles with the ACA medical insurance exchanges in SD, but had not heard of bc/bs requirements for those of Medicare age. We had about 6 weeks to make our decision on where to establish residency. South Dakota seemed like the best choice and hopefully it continues to be a good choice. If not, we can always "move" again!

om, sorry you missed it, but its been well publicized in fulltimer forums for several years that Wellmark which is BC/BS in SD, has had this policy of requiring their clients actually live in SD for at least 6 months of the year. For those pre-medicare there are very few good choices for private health insurance in SD. its perhaps the only disadvantage to SD domicile. Once you're medicare age the choices are many and since medicare requirements are set at the federal level, you run into this much less for those policies (unless the one you select is based on a local HMO/PPO instead of a nationwide network).

Suggest you seek professional help. After all your future is on the line.

Evidently I am not doing something correctly when trying to quote... My husband had Humana Part N as a supplement. He was told that it would go from ~$100 to ~$200, which prompted him to see about changing to Wellmark. Was just surprised by the letter which we received today. DH tells me that he has since found out that it will only in increase to around ~$132. We will just not pursue the Wellmark, but still might be of interest to others who are looking at residency requirements.

In 2005, when DH changed his address on the FL DL from a Corp Rental Apt to the UPS Store address, we used the RV Park address as physical location. That also helped with Voting. No one ever asked for proof, such as a Rental Receipt. Every RV Park gives us one, so that shouldn't be a problem.

That's also how we get locals on our DirecTV and how we order Pizza when we're on the road.

Check AARP for medical insurance. Also, check Part F of Medicare.

Let us know the cost of each of these for South Dakota. Many of us are domiciled through South Dakota and it would be of interest to us.

This seems to be getting to be a more common pitfall for SD registrants- fact is, regardless of that State's rules for establishing "residency", no private business or for that matter other Government entity is obliged to go along with it; nor will South Dakota come to one's defense if the residency is challenged.

No, it doesn't cover Medical Insurance. Not even for the supplemental insurance Hubby has to supplement Medicare.

Hubby has Mutual of Omaha. Our residency is in SD. We have been full time and in the NW for the last 9 years. All of his medical has been with doctors in WA, OR, and CA. He's never seen a doctor or filed a claim within the state of SD.

they've been good for him but his premium has gone from ok to OMG. We are having a tough time finding another carrier. We can't even change plans within Mutual of Omaha now. We are stuck can't find anything that will give us reliable insurance coverage, that does not require we be in SD for at least part of the year.(and my nephew is an insurance agent in ND).

Looks to us like we will become either WA or OR residents sometime in the next three years... we can't take more increases.
