Thought this might be the best place to ask this question. We are in the process of selling our house in Colorado with the goal of moving to Arizona. There may be a several month lag between selling our house and closing on a new home in Arizona. We just thought we would take the opportunity to see some new places if the lag is more than a few weeks.Technically we would be homeless. We would maintain a PO Box in Colorado until closing on AZ home. Just wonder how this would effect our DLs and insurance. Don't want to go with the South Dakota residency unless that was absolutely necessary.Sure that someone here has been through this.

Tell everyone you're at the same address in CO.Put in a change of address to have your mail forwarded to either the PO Box or better yet, a mail forwarding service. Don't tell anyone you're moving until you've already taken ownership of the new place.

You will be traveling to pick out a place - nothing says you have to do it immediately. Lots of people are in transition at anyone time. Take your time to explore your options.

Once you sell you will have a lot less mail to worry about. By having our mail forwarded to a relative, we went 6 months without a permanent address with no problem. After we sold the house our mail volume went to almost zero. As for Drivers License and insurance we did not change those until we closed on our new place.

The reason I would do this is because sometimes things change and while you may PLAN on moving to Arizona, you may change your mind or life may bring you something unforeseen in the meantime. I would forward my mail from my old home address to the PO box you mentioned in Colorado.

You won't be official AZ residents until you move into the new house and set up residency. Till then don't worry about, unless you're a lousy driver and prone to meeting the police. lol

Am I the only one that the post office would not forward mail to a mail forwarding business? They would not. The USPS said they would not forward my mail to a mail forwarding company. They would forward to another residence, but not a business.

That is also true of any business mail, the USPS will not forward that mail to anyone.
It's a weird but real policy. You just have to contact anyone you are doing business with and change your address with them as quickly as possible. Even better, setup online accounts and eliminate as much mail as possible.

Call either Escapees in Texas, or St Brendan's Isle in Florida - either one should have your answers. We use SBI, and the USPS forwards our mail there every time we travel, no issues. When we return home, we cancel it until next time. SBI is a mail forwarding company, a very good one, BTW. As us Escapees I'm told, but have not used it.

A mail forwarding service (like Escapees) provides you with a legal address. We have used Escapees Mail forwarding service for 13 years and had a house in southern AL which we sold last year. USPS had no problem forwarding mail from our old AL address to our Escapees mail forwarding address in TX.
