I'm going through the same decision point in my life right now. I'm taking early retirement in November, and have pre-existing coronary issues. My only advice is to make sure you have a health plan under contract before you leave your current job.
By November, you should have a better idea of what health care exchange prices will be for your state. Early indications are that it will be quite a bit more expensive than originally planned (Everyone - please keep the politics out of these discussions). At least you can't be denied coverage starting in 2014 due to your health issues.
