BAD EXPERIENCE

I have always complimented roadside assistance but today I had a bad experience that needs clearing up.
I lost my brakes near home, got home using the rig brakes thankfully. NO ONE was hurt.
I called Good Sam Roadside Assistance and was told someone would be there in an hour or so. An hour or a little more I got an automated call stating they thought the assistance occurred and if not hit #2 so I did since no one had come. They called the provider again and they came about 30 or so minutes later. Immediately told me they could only tow me 8 miles. There was NO place within 8 miles of me to fix my Chevy Brake Lines so the GS Roadside Assistance had authorized the tow to the nearest Chevy dealership, 10 miles away. The driver immediately wanted $8 for the extra 2 miles. I called GS Roadside assistance again, and they said they were faxing an authorization to take it the 10miles, the fax came through stating 8 miles AGAIN, so I called AGAIN, they then said they were aware and were faxing to the provider of the tow. In the mean time GS called my home( I was on cell with GS at the time on hold) and that gentleman who I think said his name was Chris, said he was taking care of it. AGAIN THE FAX SAID 8 MILES but then I think maybe Chris called the provider and it was authorized the extra 2 miles FINALLY!!! My questions are 1) with a Platinum Membership is the limit of miles they will tow 8 miles???????? 2) Why did someone continue after being authorized the 10 mi to Chevy dealership why was there two more faxes to the tow truck company that said 8 miles???
If I were on the highway this could have been a very bad situation to say the least!!!! There was brake fluid all over the place, it was clear that taking me to a Volvo dealer(that was the first suggestion of the woman who answered GS Roadside Assistance phone but I protested and the "supervisor" authorized it to go to nearest Chevy Dealership which was 10 miles away. I rarely use my roadside assistance and in fact this is the first time I have used it with Good Sam Roadside Assistance and this experience was HORRIBLE. I have used Coach-Net before and had NO trouble. I assumed that Good Sam would be as good or better. I was wrong in this case, hope I never have to use it again but if so hope this was an aberration and most people have had good experiences.

  • I've got roadside emergency service with my insurance company. Have had to use it 5 or 6 times over the years with 100% satisfaction in some of the most out-of-the-way places. My misfortunes have involved transmission failure, flat tires, broken serpentine belt, and a lockout. IIRC, that part of my premium today is about $18/yr. Now, I don't have a Good Sam smiley face on the forum... no Entertainment Discounts, VIP Concierge or Travel Agent Services... nor any inspirational dissatisfaction to change.:B YMMV.

Well I called the Volvo place they were going to tow to and they said without question that is NOT the right place for a Chevy Silverado without brakes that is a daily ride since they do not stock parts and mechanics work on bigger Volvo trucks so not familiar with Chevy per se. Roadside Assistance should be able to take you to the nearest PLACE THAT CAN FIX THE PROBLEM. I am disappointed to say the least. My expectation from Good Sam is MUCH more than was was provided. Platinum implies it is better than a regular membership, are you saying it is not??? That the Platinum is the base membership?

Platinum is better as it gives you additional things. Not more in towing though. Platinum + gives you more in towing. Look at the link that was posted above and compare plans.

  • With the platinum they will tow you to the nearest service center, which apparently was 8 miles is my guess. Although it was a Volvo place. They still could of probably repaired it. If you had the platinum + you could of had them tow it anywhere within 100 miles.
