Well, I just received a letter of cancellation for my Good Sam Roadside Assistance. My card states that I've been a member for 3 years now and apparently I've used my service too much. To my recollection I have used the service 4 times, although Good Sam states that I've used it 6 times. I just wanted to warn folks who have Good Sam Roadside Service, it's a decent service as long as you don't use it. 2 tows and 2 tire changes, from my recollection, constitutes a cancellation. Even if I had used it 6 times in the 3 years as a member, as the service stated, I don't see an abuse of the service. I used it as the need arose, isn't that what your supposed to do with this kind of service? So, just a heads up folks, don't use your Good Sam Roadside Service or you'll get cancelled.Honestly, AAA has a better roadside service and I'll be going back to them. I only went with Good Sam due to the RV service, but they use odd tow companies and it takes a fair amount of time to be serviced. AAA responds very quickly with more reputable providers.

Increasingly, anything branded Camping World or Good Sam will have very poor customer service and even have policies that take money or at least take advantage of their customer.

The insurance company holds ALL of the cards and can cancel you at any time....for any reason or for no reason. Just like health insurance companies don't want sick people enrolled , ERS doesn't want someone who might actually use that service.

I believe you will find Coach Net no different on too much usage. Use it more and you will find yourself looking elsewhere too. Don't go thinking CN is a cure all and avoids profits to just service you.

I also had AAA at one time, but I am not comfortable with using them for my RV.
In the few conversations I had with them discussing my RV they really did not understand what I was referring to. RV'ing is not their game.
Sure they will take your money but what happens when you're stranded on the side of the road? Do they understand what kind of vehicle I'm driving and what kind of wrecker to dispatch?I have my doubts.
Maybe the dispatchers are more RV savvy but the people in membership were not very RV knowledgeable. AAA is also not a nationwide operation but more of a collection of regional branches.
The OP 4 tows per year, someone quoted 3 tows per year above above does the limit vary by region or branch?
If you are not happy with GSRA I would suggest you give Coachnet a try. They are dedicated to RV's and understand the RV game.

And YOU are only getting the part of the idea that you WANT to see.

You won't KNOW for sure if you are getting a better deal or not until you have occasion to use the AAA service for your MH a time or two.
If you have to spend half a day in resolving whatever your issue is, you might change your mind......especially if it is a relatively simple flat tire with a spare available.

How many service calls/tows do you think you are entitled to for your $79-$150 annual service fee? Do you really think it's unlimited?

Ok, I was done, but some folks aren't getting the idea. I just got off the phone with AAA and renewed my membership with them for $114yr. It covers my RV as well as my other vehicles (just like Good Sam), Tows for 200 miles (Good Sam is Unlimited...to the nearest repair shop) and 4 calls per year without question(apparently Good Sam only allows 2 per year and cancels you afterward). These are the facts folks. White wash it anyway you want to make yourselves feel better, AAA is proving to be the better choice between the two. I had AAA for several years before changing to Good Sam and never got cancelled, only changed for the RV service and now AAA has that as well.

So you are asserting that the road service membership fee is pure profit of $2.6+ million per year for the company? Why? They have to pay road service providers, phone operators, and all the other operating costs out of those $70 fees before they hopefully make a net profit.

It's a service at a fee - people are free to sign up and pay for it, sign up elsewhere. or decide to self-insure their own road service costs, right? If for some reason you think it's "Greed writ large," you happily don't have to purchase it.

I didnt say anything about profit. My number was income. But it is a huge number especially if you consider that they have very little overhead or assets to pay for with this money. The Road Service is provided by other companies contracted to do it. It is they that must pay the larger overhead costs.

This kind of service is a great way to put cash to the bottom line with very little exposure to risk and few expenses. It's a business no-brainer.

You said it insurance is all about risk. The OP has exceeded the risk the road side assistance plan is willing to take.
There are always restrictions and limitations associated with insurance policies.
Life, auto, roadside, extended warranties all have their limitations.
To believe there are no limitations or restrictions associated with insurance is naive.
Based on what I said if you have no incidences your policy will be renewed next year. One incident and I imagine you are still good.
I don't pretend to know what the guidelines or limits are. However I know they exist. If your usage exceeds those parameters you willnot be renewed. Yes the policies are skewed towards the insurers. It is the only way they will remain in business.

It's ok folks, I just really wanted you all to know what you were actually buying. AAA allows for 3 service calls per year without question, I'll be moving over to them. My equipment is well maintained, but things happen like tires in the road from trucks, nails in road causing flat tires, the occasional breakdown regardless of regular maintenance, etc...and it's not about the money, I have a great retirement, but my disabilities won't allow me to wrestle tires, etc..

Good Luck with your choice. AAA does allow 3 per year but they will also cancel if you use all 3 each year; How do I know, first hand experience.

You just need to be aware that they aren't perfect either.....and maybe not even good with motorhomes.

The one and only time I tried to use them, right IN my home town, it took them nearly an hour to get back to me and the only service they could find was 70 miles away. And when THEY called me, it was to be another hour and a half. This is ONE BLOCK from a major interstate in a major city.

Pathetic service. I ended up "limping" it to a tire shop about a mile away.

At that point, I had been a member for about 17 years.
