Concerned. National General Insurance

10/09/2016
To: Good Sam
Cc: National General Insurance
On Friday the 7 of October 2016 I received an email telling me that a payment of $570.50 was due in two days and then a phone message informing me of the same.
FORTUNITLY I was able to use a credit card to service this unexpected expense by phone and avoided a laps in our insurance coverage.
National General Insurance didn’t mail, email, or call with a 30 day notice NOR does it show a Payment due in my account webpage.
Second, National General Insurance’s maximum RV insurance of $500k is insufficient and barely covers the member given the risk and value of RV vehicles.
Third, National General Insurance reports to the states that the RV is not insured when put in to Stored/Parked mode. This forces GoodSam members to unregister and reinstate the registration in person at the state MVD each time it goes in to storage. Note, we also have USAA insurance on 4 cars that go in and out of Stored/Parked mode each year and don’t have that problem.
Good Sam needs to assist their membership by insisting that National General Insurance keep their customers informed.
Avoid unnecessary administrative headaches.
Provide easy to understand, current, and accurate information in the members account webpages.

  • To AZSnow: I understand that you have been contacted by National General and they advised where your bill was sent. They also discussed how the information can be found online. There was also a discussion of liability limits. Finally, they advised the requirements of unregistering and registering RV's when they go in storage is a requirement of the state and not under the control of any insurance company. If you have any additional concerns or questions please contact me. Keith Petrick Director of Good Sam Insurance Agency

  • Greetings,
Being new to the RV world I joined Good Sam for all the services they offer, including Nat'l General Insurance. I still hope to trust in the Good Sam brand, and rely on their services BUT the sorry saga I've had with NGIC is so hard to believe that I still hope this is the exception. On Nov. 7, 2015 my friend's husband insisted that since he was experienced he should back the rig for me, instead he crashed it into a tree. That was an aberration in itself but that was almost a year ago. AND Consistently, the claims agent has stalled payments to the repair shop such that the last payament was just made this month, yet short again $323. Yes I am a newbie to this RV world BUT certainly this could not reflect the reputation of Good Sam and must be the exception. I am now to be stuck with the bill, which just does not seem right. What or who or where can I get help resolving this case? Once and for all, we all need to bring it to a close.
  • Wow, sounds like a real hassle! I have National General and made arrangements for my payments to come out of my bank account automatically. They always send an email and confirm that the payment was posted. When I put my rig "to-sleep" December - April. I call the toll free number and get a greatly reduced rate for the storage period, and the call is done in less than 5 minutes. If for some reason I want to take it out, another < 5 min. call and full insurance back on.
  • Hi AZsnow... Thanks for putting your concerns on rvnet... I have National General insurance now. This is my second year of coverage. I have never had to use the insurance. So I will be following your out come from Good sams. I may just need to change insurance companies when the policy expires this spring. Jim2007

  • Not to start an argument but for my knowledge.
National General is not giving you good service.
Why do you reinsure with them?
    Price?
    Ease of transactions?
    customer service?
    Inertia?
I firmly believe in voting with feet when you get poor service.
