Well "delwhjr",I would say you are lucky to have found a good agent and company. I grew up in the 1950's with my family having Farmers Insurance and one agent. He not only insured my parents but then my sisters and brother and then me when we each became of age and driving. He was a great persoanl agent back in the day.
I stayed with Famers for years after becoming an adult and married myslef but with a different agent and area then the one I lived in as a child growiung up.
I thnnk for the most part gone are those days.
National General, Good Sams insurance is so big they do not have its own local agents or adjusters and they contract out, and there is the prpoblme or at least the problme we ran into in July of 2016 and the hail storm we were cought in.
The people in the insurance company were far removed from that friendly one on one relation with the customer and more focueed on cutting their costs. If it were not for the honesty of the repair shop owner they sent us to we would not have been serviced well at all. We were actually told by our phone representative handling our case the owner should not have said the things to us he did about how National General was just trying to do it on the cheap and he in good conscience could not do it. She said he works for us. I was thankful he was working more for his customers and protecting his BBB A rating than doing the cheap fix for the insurance company.
My point exactly.
When we lose the personal touch and companies are insulated from direct customer contact(local agent) then we become just numbers on a score card. The company model in many cases is to deny and delay to increase profit because they know and it has been proven that many people will accept the low settlement or drop the whole thing due to hassle.
This goes along with another thread on this forum about quality. We look for the "bargain" and then get the results of less durability, service and product.
National general has one of the worst financial ratings of all the insurance companies. Maybe this explains why they do business the way they do. Their claims performance is also one of the worst.
