Good Sam Club Chapters embrace true RV fellowship and make lasting friendships through a shared sense of community and a love for RVing. Chapters hold campouts, plan social events and organize community volunteer opportunities. There are nearly 1,500 Good Sam Chapters across North America.

Also we have Standby Sams. The Good Sam Club is about service, helping out our fellow RVer, and that spirit is what fuels our Standby Sams program. Standby Sams are Good Sam members who volunteer to provide emergency advice and referrals to fellow members traveling through their area. This group has helped hundreds of Good Sam members over the years by providing contact information for local campgrounds, mechanics – even a good restaurant! We are pleased to report there are nearly 2,000 Standby Sams throughout the United States and Canada.

I think you have an excellent idea and I have a suggestion for you.

Check with your state Good Sam director and seek out a Good Sam Chapter in your local area. Your state director would be happy to help you get in touch with one. There 31 chapters in your state. If you were in Ohio I would love for you to visit one of our chapter's campouts.

Go to a local Camp Groung and ask the person on charge if someone there would help you set up and break down your set up . Some places will help for free some will ask fr a little pay or just talk to your neighbor when you get to the camp ground and ask for help don' be shy on saying you are new and need a little instructions.
Most of campers love to teach and make new friends.

As a campground hosts, we do that a few times per year. We love helping people enter the world of camping. Ask for help at the gate.

Or open the hood on your car. Within 10 minutes, you will have six people there asking: "Trouble?" "Can I help?"

That is one of the great things about camping.

Would be cool (probably not practical) if there were campsites with hookups at the CW locations where new purchasers can stay overnight (1 night) and get the assistance they need with their unit while there. Then maybe those that are getting service done could stay there as well. And then for the nights where there are spaces available, rent them out. Maybe $10/night for non GS members and $5 for GS members.

DIXIE RV and Camping World, located west of Hammond, LA at the Pumpkin Center Exit, I believe, is putting in more camp sites for customers... possibly overnighters, too. They've good about teaching their buyers about their unit. Other dealers may do this, too. Couldn't hurt to ask if you can stay overnight for a few $.

X2 on joining a chapter. Besides getting help setting up, you will meet a lot of good people and will enjoy the company at the campground.

The only problem about joining a chapter for a newbie is that they will be camping while a group is camping and there will many eyes upon them and many "opinnions" on how to do thing. Not saying that they aren't good, but one on one feedback on how to accomplish the basic tasks is what would be needed the most. I imagine it could be nerve-racking with a group for some.

Hi bobbi.collum, welcome to the world of rving, it is so much fun. Its to bad you live in Camdenton, I live over in Crystal City, along the Mississippi River a little south of St. Louis. I would be more than happy to help you to get to know your unit. In a short time it will be so easy for you. This website has so much information on it. Do a search, if you don't find what you want, post a question and you will get the info you are seeking.
When contacting your local Good Sam Chpter, be patient, it may take a whild to get a response. At least that is what has happen to me. I think the first response took a little over 2 weeks. I am now waiting for another response. I am patient, I know that all the people who run the local chapters are volunteers. Thsy do a lot of work keeping a local chaper going.
