Last week I had a problem with my landing gear on my fifth wheel. I called Good Sams road side assistance. To see if they could do anything for me. They sent a repair guy with no knowledge of landing gears. I have an extended service plan with Good Sams also and called them for help. This is where it gets better. I found out that none of these Good Sams services are really Good Sams and they do not communicate with each other. This is a real issue when people are traveling and trying to get the help they are paying for.

I located a Camping World in Syracuse, NY and stopped by there to have them look at the problem They diagnosed the problem as a broken landing gear and needed to notify my extended service plan provider ( I think it is Affinity even though my card says Good Sams). I received a call form Camping World today to inform me I have to bring the 5th Wheel back so an inspector can look at it. My wife and I are living in our RV for the summer and can’t just travel to and from the repair facility several times for some one to look at our problem.

I am a Good Sams member #********, a Platinum Roadside assistance member #8********, and an Extended Service contract #GARTT***********. I am experiencing problems at every intersection along the maze of Good Sams. By the time I am done with trips back and forth and maybe several hotel rooms the cost of having all these Good Sams accounts will be unaffordable. Back in my day we used to get what we paid for but I guess that isn’t the case now. If I saved the money I have spent in service and roadside coverage over the last few year I would have the money to fix my 5th wheel at any shop without the hassle of dealing with many people that do not work for Good Sams even though my card says they are Good Sams.

Is there anyone in the Good Sams organization that can handle or expedite a not so complicated repair order so we can get on our way.
  • I apologize for the delays in getting your problem fixed and getting you back on the road. We will work on getting this expedited just as soon as the shop and the administrator are open tomorrow. Please e-mail me your full name and address and we will get this handled.
  • Good luck with your plight...you're gonna need it.

By the way, the company is Good Sam...not Good Sams.

  • OH NO CW SYRACUSE all is lost,
I went there once which was 2 times to many.
  • Just for the record, we depended on Syracuse, NY Camping World for an emergency awning repair a couple years ago. I cannot fault them for their assistance and repairs.... although the voltage in their camping hookups was so bad I had to rely on my generator for the four days we were stuck there in their parking lot ... it was 108 degrees.
  • I've been considering whether or not to purchase a ESP from Good Sam, you just made my decision for me.
  • Were you really trying to post your account numbers on the internet? How about a social and DL. :S
  • Hey Bird Freak my account numbers always have a bunch of ***'s in them. I thought everyone did.

More on my saga. I have spoken with a few different people at customer service and ESP. I decided to drop the claim at Camping World and order parts myself and either find someone to install them or do it myself. ESP sent forms for me to send back with receipts for parts and labor and they will pay it. After reading up on the topic, landing gear replacement is not rocket science. Most people say it will only take about 2 hours to do the job.

I called CW to cancel the claim they had. An hour later a got a call from the CPU lady stating I had to pay a diagnostic fee and service fee of about $150.00. I told her that they did nothing for me and I shouldn't be charged. Now I have to wait for her Manager to make a decision. She won't be in until next Wednesday. Sounds about right to me. No Manager on site.

You are a lot better off doing it your self and won't have to wait months for them to do it.
