For the help

Hey Folks: Being a new prospective RV guy, one EXTREAMLY important question (I have many) is road side assistance. My thoughts of heading for the bar ditch with a smoking RV(folks in tow)in the middle of the night, gets me to thinking pretty damn quick. HELP!!!
Stranded, now what?
Do yall have any suggestion of good folks to support the stranded RV'er. Cost, good, bad comments.
I would hope the best care would come when it is needed most. Would yall not agree.
Comment welcome...

Thanks all

GT

  • Read my just posted comments, "You hope it won't happen, but".
You are crazy it you don't.
  • My view is that its all a crapshoot. For something simple like a flat, the services are good, but it seems to go downhill from there. I had GS leave me on the side of the road but luckily I was close to home and a friend helped me get it home. Now I am with Coachnet but haven't needed service and I hope it stays that way.
  • We paid more than the yearly premium for roadside assistance a couple years ago in Destin Florida on Easter Sunday. We locked the keys in our camper and did nt have the roadside assistance. Had to find and call a locksmith. We learned our lesson then.
  • I was camping in my Class A on July 13, and accidentally locked my keys in the couch. Well my paperwork and card for good Sam were also in the coach, so I did not have the number, Luckily, my decal from Camping world was still on with there phone number. I called Camping world, got the number for good Sam, called them and within an hour, they had a locksmith out at the lake, and within two minuets, he had the door unlocked, he could not take any gratuties, so I offered him a coke, and he took it and thanked me, but I thanked him more, since I would have a place to sleep and cook. So Good Sam did help me the first time I needed them. I have only had the coach, and been with Good Sam since March of this year.
  • We have Good Sam Roadside Assistance. Have had it for 11 years. We recently upgraded to the Platinum level which costs about $140.00/year. The regular RA has a 1st year cost of $80.00 then jumps at renewal to $120.00/year. I read where people seem to have all kinds of problems with Good Sam but I've always been pleased with the eventual outcome. I (hate to say it) have used GS several times over the years (three times in 3 months this year alone). For my money GS is the way to go. Just remember, they pay for getting the responder to and from you ... all labor and parts for repairs are on you. Also, most responders don't work with warranty work ... that is between you and the warranty company.
  • My personal opinion: you will never be satisfied with any roadside assistance since you did not want to have a problem in the first place. It ruins a day or two of vacation. It puts you in a bad mood. What did you ever do to deserve this!!!!
Therefore: pay the dues and take your choice. I had AAA for countless years, since I was 16, but recently two really poor service experiences involving family members turned me off to AAA. Then I had Coachnet for a year. When I needed help on the 101 in Washington they could not find anyone to help me. After many hours of call-backs they finally sent a retired building contractor who works part time in the campground I was parked in. REALLY.
I now have GoodSam. They responded adequately, not great but adequate, for a flat tire on my family car.
If you don't need Road Side Service it is nice to have one of the above to call. If and when you do need service, it is nice to be able to call one number and EVENTUALLY get help. The programs are not that expensive, they give peace of mind, and hopefully you will never need that type of service.
    Happy Trails.
