Good Sam Visa Cominity Rip-Off

Dear Marcus,
We have been notified by the comedy bank that any future purchases with their card will be at 24.99%. We were shocked, to say the least. We were under the impression that the Club did things to benefit the RV community. Guess we were wrong. Needless to say, we have suspended use of this card and as soon as it's paid in full, we will cancel our account. If you can't do better than this with Visa, or the extended service policy, there may be no point in continuing our membership. We'll see.

  • Hello Richard and Michelle,
I wanted to let you know that I'm reaching out to Comenity on your behalf to look into the rate increase notification you received. I will get back to you as soon as I have more information. Thank you for your patience.

    Sincerely,
    Robyn Barnes

The "Club" does things to financially benefit themselves. If it also benefits the RV community then good, but that is not what they care about. They care about financially bettering themselves.

That high interest rate sounds like a punitive rate. Did you make a late payment? Did you go over your credit limit?
  • The club is great if you actually participate in the club.

Unfortunately, first and foremost, the ownership of the club is a 'for profit' business. They have affiliate relationships with other businesses for the sole purpose of making money under the guise of benefiting the members.
  • No CC is worth it, if not paid off in full each month.
Only way to not pay any interest.

I love the 3% cash back on gas, 2% cash back on grocery's and 1% on everything else bought with my Visa card. I pay it off every month and they are paying me to use it. I don't use my debit card much now, except when I want some cash back at Wally World.
  • Good Sam didn't raise your interest rate; however, the issuing bank did. Your task is to find out why. You are entitled to one free credit report from each of the three reporting agencies each year. The website is:

    https://www.annualcreditreport.com

Also, if you want or need a new card, Google Credit Cards and you'll find lots of card offers.

Also, if you can, get your credit score to see where you stand. Despite having a high score, CITI raised the rate on our Sears card, which we've had over 50 years, to the over 20% range. We don't use that card anymore.
  • Maybe GS will post OP credit score and balance on the card in their response?
  • Folks, thank you for your input. No late payments, we have auto-pay, we have excellent credit, so not punitive. Hmmm....they haven't given me any cash back either. So, the end result is, as usual, caveat emptor. Just as I thought. There are a few things I like about the club. But, stay away from the ESP, RV Ins. and the credit card. Every thing else is ok. PS I gave up my Sears card for the very same reason.
  • Hi,
I am so sorry to hear that you have not received any cash back, I am sending a ticket over to the right person, we will follow up with you as soon as possible, thank you for your patience. Joe from the GS Rapid Response Team
