GS Platinum Problems
I've been a staunch defender of GS Roadside Assistance for quite a while on these forums.
After yesterday's experience, I'm awaiting approval from CoachNet, and then I will cancel my GS Platinum Roadside Assistance.
While driving on I-635 near the Mesquite/ Garland line Monday (6/20), truckers and others started honking and pointing at the trailer. We slowed down, got off the freeway and into a restaurant parking lot where it was safe to look at the rig.
The bearings had failed on one of the TT tires.
GS Roadside Assistance had the trailer particulars. They dispatched a 20' rollback to pick up a non-towable 36' TT weighing 10,000 lbs.
The towing company obviously could not move the TT to a repair location five miles away. After talking to GS, the towing company had two options. I could leave the trailer in the parking lot, not a secure location, overnight until they could get a flatbed to the location on Tuesday. Or GS suggested that we find a heavy vehicle towing outfit on our own and pay them to tow the trailer on a flat-bed.
I talked to GS myself and said that was unacceptable. And after 30 minutes, the operator said their RV Tech recommended dispatching a mobile RV repair service to replace the bearings in place.
After another hour (now 2 1/2 hours since the first call) in 98 degree heat, the RV repair service called me. 1) They could not get to me until tomorrow, 2) GS had not left them a contact number so they could talk to GS about finding someone else, and 3) it was highly unlikely a mobile tech would be able to replace just the bearings and get the rig operable.
I called GS back, and they said their RV Tech, who would not talk to me, said a mobile service should be the answer. They would try to find someone else.
By this time, some friends from my Good Sam group had come over. We jacked up the rig. Removed the wheel. Saw the damage was to the hub, the brakes, the inner bearings were welded to the hub.
We rigged a temporary dolly under the wheel, and I towed the trailer the five miles on local city streets at 5-10 mph to get to the dealership (just lucky I was near the dealership where I bought the trailer).
GS Platinum Assistance was not able to provide any assistance.
Nor were they interested in dealing with time constraints (had to have the TT to the dealership before 5 pm, otherwise it would have to go to a storage location, and a second tow which would be at my expense.)
Lack of security at possibly having to leave our TT in an unsecured location overnight.
They were totally unprepared to deal with a TT needing to be carried on a flat-bed, and even after I stressed that need, did not contact a towing company with the necessary equipment available.
So, I had to take care of the problem myself, with great help from my Good Sam group friends. I also damaged the tire on the other axle during the tow we did make, overloading it badly.
I realize finding the right equipment could be a challenge, but the GS Platinum folks were not up to the challenge.
Having a RV Tech available to the operator who would not talk directly to me, and would contradict what I was seeing, saying it was a relatively minor repair - is unacceptable.
You had my business for several years. You will never have it in the future.
