GS Roadside Assistance Membership

In 2013, we purchased a new camper. We also became platinum members of GS Roadside Assistance. We had a membership years prior to the Platinum but let it expire. The card was tucked away as we have not needed any assistance!!

On Saturday, June 27, we visited the Camping World of Bath New York and picked up a few items. They had good pricing on a membership to GSRA and were pushing new membership and updating expired members. As we checked out, the young lady informed me that the computer said my membership in GSRA had expired and asked if we were interested in renewing it. I thought for a second and said yes, not checking the card. Once we returned to our camper, I checked our card and discovered that it would not expire until 2018. I called back immediately and told them to cancel the transaction but they could not as it was already processed. I would have to wait for a refund check from Good Sam.

My questions is why the computer would tell her that my Roadside Assistance had expired when in fact it was still good for 3 years? Why didn't the Platinum membership show up?

Maybe this will help... like you I bought a RV that came with the premium Good Sam Roadside Service. I too had a former expired GS Roadside Service. I noticed when I got the card for the new service there was a new member number on the card. Now when I sign into the online roadside service with the old number it says my service has expired... sign in with the new number and I've got a couple years left of service. Problem is it seems that the old service is tied to my Good Sam membership number and the new one is not... so, if they check using your GS member number they are probably pulling up the old expired info instead of current stuff. How to fix that I'm not quite sure, but I'm going to be checking into it!!!

Same thing happened with us. I called customer service and got it straightened out and they sent new cards with one number.
  • Good Evening Dasquirrel, Thank you for your post. zachcyles could be correct or the reason could be something totally different. Only way to know for sure is to check your account. Can you private message me your contact information and membership number(s) and I will investigate the issue for you and let you know what I find out.

Thank you...Rudy, Good Sam Response Team.

...And yet, here you are posting. You do realize Good Sam owns this forum?

  • As I posted in another forum this practice I beleive is called churning.

If they can get you to renew early they shorten the lifetime of your first membership, thus getting paid the full term amount for fewer months than originally agreed upon. If they continue with this over the years of your membership pretty soon you will be paying the full price for half the length of time.

AARP has this down to a science.

This is also a way to increase cashflow.

Call them on the phone and demand they lengthen your new membership by the amount of time left on your previous membership and if they refuse I would cancel. (At least I would) Or give you a pro-rated refund of the unused months. If everyone did this, this practice would stop dead in it's tracks.
