Did you take it to a shop and the shop called GS or did you personally call them asking for approval?
Sounds as though the gear assembly needs to be replaced, a seemingly covered part. If the bolt can be removed with an e-z out and replaced it probably could be done for less or close to your deductible.
Actually both the shop told me yesterday that the GS Extended Warranty would not cover the repair and so I came home and called them myself. I also called the step manufacturer LCI and the coach manufacturer Thor Motor Coach. It is in the shop for service and several other warranty items. The step is only one of the items they are refusing to cover.
Before the gear plate bolt can be removed with an E-Z out the step has to be removed from the coach and the tack weld has to be ground off. I am also concerned because the step broke when I had pulled into a gas station to refuel, I opened the door and the step was just swinging, When I got out the bolt was laying right under the step, there was also a small spring around the gear on the motor, so I don't know if the motor malfunctioned causing the bolt to snap off, the shop says they need to replace the bolt before they can check the motor, I am going over to the shop this morning and see if the tech can check the motor again, I still don't know where the spring came from.
