IS GS INSURANCE WORTH HAVING? OR ANOTER CHOICE BETTER?

We are thinking of dropping National General(GS). Looking into Progressive.
I will say when GS was GMAC. They paid quick on MH damage. But did Jack Me UP $$.

I got a quote from Geico who insures our other autmobiles on a 2011 Winebago Access Premier. Was prety good at 315 every 6 months (630 yearly).

It provides full coverage at 500 deductible and healthy liability limits and Underinsured motorists protection. It also has Roadside Assistance that is pretty comprehensive. Geico also give you 'free' -

Emergency Expens

Pays reasonable expenses incurred for temporary living facilities, transportation and towing.

Replacement Cost Personal Effects
5M
Protects certain personal belongings that are inside the RV, up to the coverage limit chosen.

Vacation Liability Coverage
10M
Provides bodily injury or property damage coverage while the covered RV is at an insured location.

Thanks for the response guys. It has sure made me sit up and take notice. As you get older, money gets tighter on a retirement income so, you have to watch every dime.

Last thing you want to do is have to fight to get repairs done in a timely order after giving them your money.

That's one reason that I decided against buying their insurance and bank the money instead. I've tried other third party insurance and extended warranties in the past. Always seemed like you were still paying even after putting out a great amount of cash up front.

So you are saying you do not carry liability, comp., and collision insurance. You just bank the money instead. How much money do you have to bank in order to satisfy the State Regulations requiring Ins. Coverage for motor vehicles driven on State Highways?

You can't drive a fifth wheel. Has no motor! In Ga. as you and I are there are no insurance requirements for trailers as they are covered by tv on the road.

Frankly, I would stay away from anything branded "Good Sam" or "Camping World." There are just too many inexcusable horror stories on this and other forums to risk investing in any of their products.

We have been with GS since 2009-5-11-15, very disappointed. Switched this week to AAA 870.00 less. I needed an agent to converse with. Please check around you will not be sorry.

for a 2005 you probably just need liability...and, if I recall correctly, anytime the trailer is attached to the truck it is covered by liability through the truck policy.

5th wheel is probably worth about $14K.

Shop around. I changed to GS insurance March 6 and have had nothing but problems with the policy. When it was all settled it cost me more than $300.00 more than my old company with same coverage. There was no savings. I am back with my original company.

I think your story is a good example of doing what others have said. Just bank the money and stay away from GS and other third party extended warranties. There should be no reason to have to fight with a company after you have paid them for the coverage.

As can be seen from our previous post, Good Sam responded immediately to the complaint about National General Insurance Co. Unmistakable evidence which is documented, photographed and backed by experts; shows that a rodent chewed the wiring harness of my Coach's generator and urinated on the unit. The initial recommendation and request, based on advice from the repair facility, was to replace the generator but we were informed that National General Ins. would pay for the damaged wiring but not a new generator; only a small part of the damage. If a rodent's chewing is an allowed claim; then subsequently, the acidic damage to the interior of the unit should also be covered. The basic repair was done to the wiring because that is all that National General advised that they would cover. Unfortunately, this just exposed more damage. Mechanics advised that the generator would start after the wiring was repaired but abruptly shut off. Therefore, after spending approximately $1,900 unnecessarily we are now faced with having to replace the generator. We are really disappointed that this obvious rodent damage is not fully covered. In addition to the $1,900 cost we have had to endure unnecessary costs which are compounding and still we must replace the generator. Our original belief that Good Sam's insurance could be better; still stands.

We are not accepting this and are still waiting on a call from the supervisor of the supervisor of the Claims Department.
