Membership Cards

Been a GS member since 2010. Last year, I moved up to Life Member. Cards were slow. More were sent. Some with first name, some with middle name. No biggy. Ended up with at least 5 or 6 Life Member Cards. Fast forward to this year. We purchased our MH June 1st and were made Elite members. Was told it was for 3 years. Great! Received our cards sometime in July. About 4 of them. Today, I get two pieces of mail from GS. No problem. I don't really fuss over the mail we get from them. We already have nearly every product they have anyway. But I noticed one was for Elite member and the other was not. They both felt like they had cards in them. So I opened them up and voila! Another Elite member card and another Life member card. Still no complaints. I can have a card in my wallet, my wife can have one in her purse, and we can have one ithe MH and each vehicle we own and still may have a spare left over.

The reasoning of this post is just to bring light to it and that it does happen. I'm no rocket scientist, but there has to be some cost associated with this and if this was happening to at least half the members, then it would definitely be somewhat of a cost burden. It may be miniscule. Perhaps some cleanup in the system needs to be done. Then again, having someone do that may cost more than what the loss is there.

I do have one nitpick though. The Elite Membership is supposed to be for 3 years, though my on the back of my card it says Valid through 2051 on some cards and Life on other. This is the Elite card as well as the Life member card. So am I gonna be an Elite member for life? :B

  • Kind of makes you wonder. I signed for Life member last year still have not received cards. Called a couple of times but no results. Every thing seams to work w/name and phone #. Works for me.
  • Elizabeth, its no issue for me. I have cards. More than enough cards. But find it funny to just receive cards out of the blue. Especially life member cards since I've had that status for a year.

Just wanted to point it out as another occurance. If being an elite member really gave me any significant advantage over beig a regular or life member, then I might challenge you that I should have elite for life because my card says it. Lol. I'm sure someone out there will.

When I shop at Camping World they use my phone number to establish my discount. The one time I called Good Sam for roadside assistance I don't believe they asked for my ID#, I don't carry my card, so they probably just used my name or phone number to verify service membership. I don't like to carry a bunch of cards around. The markets and the department stores and the hardware box stores all seem to find my membership number from phone or name data. So if it just the same to GS, I really don't need a membership card, I just need to be a member.

So, have you tried to use a debit and or a credit card without the card?
  • Hello wbwood,

Thank you for your post! We certainly thank you also for taking the time to let us know of your card issues and I want to assure you we are continuing to work on the card processing system to make it more efficient and convenient for our members.

You are correct, Elite memberships are valid for three years from RV purchase date. And, Life memberships are valid for Life! After your Elite membership ends, you’ll continue to have your Life status for Life! We apologize for any confusion due to the date printed on the cards and are working to resolve. I hope this helps to answer your question and please let me know if you need anything else. Thank you and have a great weekend!

It's direct mail gone a muck and sadly has been that way with GS for 'many', 'many' years. They make their poorly spent advertising money back 2 fold when people pay for memberships that are not even expired because of all the confusing junk mail and cards they receive.
