Misunderstood what road side assistance was
A week ago I drove from ND. to Fl. to pick up my slide in truck camper. Saturday 4-11 I am heading north on I-29 and decided to take I-90W to camp on a bluff I knew about in western SD. When I turned on I-90W @ Sioux Falls,SD. I was hit with a strong crosswind 30 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH. After seeing a new small TT flipped and busted I turned chicken and turned around to return to I-29. I heard a pop and one side of my awning bracket came loose and was swinging the awning in the wind. I pulled off on the shoulder as the other side came loose. I was holding down the unfurled awning to keep it from swinging up over the top of the camper. I called roadside assistance and was told someone would call back. After some time I got a return call. I told them I needed 1 man and an extension ladder and I could take care of this. This warped their mind and after another phone call I was told they couldn't help me since it didn't qualify as a roadside assistance issue and I should call 911. I was able to temporarily wedge awning supports under truck frame while getting my ratchet straps and strapping it to the frame so I could look up a true road service and they were @ my location with a ladder within 20 min. We were done in 10 minutes and I paid him $120.00 cash for his service. The entire situation took 3 hrs to resolve while only 30 to 35 minutes to correct. I am sure a lot of you will post how well you were taken care of by Good Sam and I am glad you had good results. I apologize for being so long winded with the background.
