National General Insurance issue

I say it is an issue and not a problem but more of an irritation. We are leaving Mid-May for a three month long trip across Canada into Alaska returning sometime in August. I called the insurance company because the policy expires in July and I wanted to pre-pay our premiums.

No such luck. I'm not concerned with paying the premiums as much as I am documentation that we are covered plus the Canada document. The customer rep said the company can email them to us but we will have to find some place to print them out which can be problematic in the wilds of the Yukon !!

I offered to pay it in advance but their "system" is not set up for that!! Seems to me that RV insurance could be just a little more flexible for RV travelers who want to GIVE them money. :E

Just sayin !!

  • Hi,
I i also suggest you to take a printer along with you, Put your printer in the WI-fi zone of your system and do your work without any interrupt.
  • I look forward to the day when these kinds of documents can be presented on a smart phone, like insurance cards can now.

Is it maybe that there's not a way to do it because premiums could change before your renewal?

This is exactly why Ins. Co. do not allow advance payments. If the Ins. Com. allows a increase in prem., they do not want to be bothered with figuring partial billing. All the Co. I know of will return checks sent in before the billing date. Paying semi-annually instead of paying monthly is not prepaying. They always charge extra for monthly payments.
  • Also, do you have a smart phone? Or can you gain access to a computer and get on to your bank website? That way you can make a payment then while you are out on the road. Or you may be able to call them and give the payment over the phone.

  • Thanks for the feedback. I do plan to take my laptop and printer but I sure was hoping not to have to deal with that on the road but the Insurance company is not set up to accept pre-payment.

    Odd...:h

Must be missing something, why not get the docuements now and print them. Make out and put your payments in stamped envelopes now. Just put them in a mailbox on the appropriate day.

You are missing something. He's not worried about the making a payment thing as he is to having current up to dat documents proving his insurance. It will expire during his trip.

I think you will be able to find somewhere to print them out. Or better yet do as the other mentioned and take your printer with you. If it's too big, you can purchase an inexpensive smaller printer for $75 or less maybe.

  • I really don't think you'll have a problem getting something printed in Whitehorse...

Or, just take your printer along with you. Our small HP (wireless) works very well for printing from either hard copy (scan) or from email. If you don't have one...buy one...they're cheap!
