No Show from the GS Roadside Assistance today

We have had excellent roadside service from Good Sam for the past ten years but they let us down today. A tire blew out on our pontoon boat trailer on a narrow but very busy mountain road. Due to the lack of shoulders we were unable to get the truck and trailer completely off the road. We made a call to 911 and they sent an officer to help with traffic and keep us safe. The vendor, supposedly sent by GS, never showed up and passers-by helped us get the tire off, send for a new tire, and remount it. There is no way that we could just sit in that kind of situation and wait. I will inform GS. These situations can happen with any roadside assistance program as everything depends on the vendors that they use. I hope GS will not use these folks again. lizzie

  • With these roadside assistance programs it always depends where you are and who they have to contact in that area to help you!

But you are paying for a service that when you need it, you need it.

After the fact apologies don't do much for the aggravation and stress while on the side of or in the roadway waiting.

Always after the fact . . . Lot of good it does now. Just suck our money from us and not keep up with your end of the deal.
  • Except for the traffic hazard that we presented, this was not a bad situation. It was day time, the weather was great, and the local folks were super helpful. A few years back we were left in a dreadful and dangerous situation by another roadside assistance program and the made no effort to respond to our concerns. That is when we switched to Good Sam. We have a box full of tools and stuff in the truck, but the precariousness of our situation made it impossible to use them. A pontoon boat is not the most stable of cargos and the handle broke on the jack. We are adding flairs to our inventory. lizzie
  • I have changed hundreds of flat tires for folks because they were waiting for "road service". Out west the drive time for a service truck could be over an hour under ideal conditions. Road service is nice to have and a good insurance. But make sure you have everything you need to replace a tire, just in case!!!!!!

The problem is that all the chains are the same strength and often use the same providers.
  • Had the same thing happen with Coach-Net, they are all the same, hit and miss as to if the service is or is not rendered.
It would be nice if folks posted where it happened, may find some areas it is common, and others things work as they should.
  • i think part of the problem is that gs subcontracts out the road service and does not have direct control over quality. i would like to see statistics on calls that go unfulfilled by all the road service providers.

Your absolutely right Lizzie This kind of stuff can happen to any corporation but I am sure GS is going to refund you every dime you have spent on them since the last time you had a good outcome with them. After all you pay for a service and when you don't get what you pay for you get a refund. Right GS? Right? Hello anyone out there????? :h
