Not Able To Assist

I found out today that we actually had two types of roadside assistance one with Good Sam and the other with the Hartford. The one with the Hartford comes automatically with the policy. What I meant in my prior posts about not feeling comfortable in the area we were in was it appeared to be a bad part of town with bars on the windows and doors of the nearby stores. Maybe it was fine who knows.

In the future I would recommend that anyone having a problem call fla-gypsy for advice prior to calling for service.

Either you are kidding and have a very sick sense of humor or you have no clue what roadside assistance is suppose to do. When you are disabled, broke down (whatever), the reason you have roadside assistance is to get help. It is a standard question by dispatchers to ask if you are in an unsafe situation. A yes answer should only move you to the top of the priority list. :S

You are correct - I have no clue about what Roadside assistance is there to do. And I do have a sick sense of humor but it stayed buried on this one.



However, color me extremely skeptical that in today's litigious society senior management would condone sending tow trucks into an area where police presence is required.

I'm taking that to mean fear of bodily injury.
Like they're in a bad part of town.
Like they're stripping parts off your RV while you're on the phone.

Maybe that's not what the OP meant.

We take the motor home a couple of times a year at most. When we call Roadside Assistance I really don't want to hear no one can get you. From what I was told they even tried Deming which was much further away. Yes they said no one can come that night and we were on our own. I absolutely do not want sympathy as stated in my first post my husband and I would like to know why. It was daylight, it was Monday and we were in a huge town.

Try re reading my post. If you think I am a fan of GS you are sadly mistaken. The post I responded to was defending GS for blowing off the OP. The analogy to a commercial towing assistance and ERS is spot on. They both operate from the same business model.

When a reputable company is contacted you get timely assistance. I differentiated between 911 situations and the more typical breakdowns. While we still lack sufficient details on the OP's experience it sounds like GS let him down.

I comprehended your post perfectly. I was only pointing out that the example you used is completely out of context and GSRA failures are common occurrence on this forum. I have no way of knowing why the failuire occurred either, based on the limited information, only that the OP felt his expectations were not met. GSRA was correct in telling him to call the police if he felt he was in danger. Why anyone would think otherwise is puzzling.

Uncomfortable? Was that because of what the people in the area looked like? I won't go further but suffice it to say your reticence in actually calling the police paints a entirely different picture than one of danger.

Was it outright refusal to send help or was it in sending timely help considering you were off the road and in a lot?

I'm not trying to belittle your complaint but if you want sympathy perhaps you need to be more forthright in your statements.

It amazes me how many folks seem to have problems with GS getting service when broken down and how many I've read on various forums that say they'd never renew their membership or go with them in the first place from previous stories told. Appreciate that all companies in all fields have some issues but when I have a Roadside assistance plan 24 hr service, I expect on the odd occasion I need it for it to be responsive.

These type of experiences being shared on the net today are not very good PR for the company at all.

I'm not a GS advocate but I do understand that all we see are the complaints. How many positive experiences are there that are not posted or mentioned?
We generally only here one side of the story when there is always more.
GS provides this forum as a means for customers to contact them and vent their frustrations.
In some cases I'm sure GS could have done better. In some cases the camper may have unrealistic expectations.
Nevertheless I generally see GS as no better or no worse than their road-service competition.
All of the services contract to the same tow companies for the most part. Call AAA, Coach net, or GS and you may get the same tow truck in the end

If you were the manager you should have sent help and the police. That's what they paid for!

I'll stick with my AAA roadside assistance = not the fastest I'm sure but at least they've always sent someone to us within a couple hours tops and usually much much quicker depending how far they have to come from to us.
