Pliot/Flying J and Good Sam Discount.

Thanks to Ella of the Good Sam Care Team I received my new Life Member Good Sam Club cards. The old one, era 1982 would not work at the pump. During the last 10 days, I have used the new card at Pilot centers from Lexington, KY to Myrtle Beach, SC.

Thanks Good Sam. Saving 5 cents a gallon is great. This and my 5% rewards from my PenFed Credit cards means over 10 cents a gallon savings per gallon.

Sure hope this works for years.

On another note, Pilot was equal too or lower that other stations at the same interstate exits. With the card, I got reg gas for $1.929 in Columbia, SC.:B

We recently traveled from Phoenix to Florida on mostly highway 10. The truck stops were consistently $.25 to $.35 higher per gallon thanthe other fuel stations. When I'm taking 75 to 100 gal at a time, those savings amount to the cost of dinner or six free tires every five or six years......

And yes, we drive a 40' DP with a toad. The only time I fill at a truck stop is if I'm also going to sleep there.

That may be true of the route you traveled, but the market is more competitive on the route from Lexington to Myrtle Beach. Nowhere did I see a 25 cent difference.

Are you using Gas Buddy or just looking at the big bill-board prices?

If you will read my OP, I say that I bought reg. gas. I am on the way to the beach. I am not going to drive far off the interstate looking to save a few cents. Just need a place to buy a few gallons of gas, use the restrooms and maybe grab a bite.
When I need to buy fuel for the pusher, I may plan a day in advance as to where to buy. I do use Gas Buddy and google earth to make sure there is an in and out.

I have too found that the truck stops along I-75 in the central Florida area (Ocala) charge as much as .40 per gallon more then at local stations in town. I think its just plain robbery of the truckers and travelers and I for one refuse to go to them even with a few cents a gallon discount.

I agree Ron. Checked prices in Ocala vs Flying J. Found $.40 difference. I advise RV'ers to never stop at Flying J again. Drive downtown and save enough to get rich. Traffic is never bad in Ocala so you can breeze in and out.

Easy to state the difference. Give us a few examples. Tell us where you stopped and we will go to GASBUDDY and compare prices.

  • We use the flying j in Dothan for 99 % of our gas, the 7 cent off a gallon is great and the price is usually lower than most other places near them. I do however use Marathon in Faydette Al. for the non-ethanol which we use in our mowers, boat engines, generator, chain saws etc.
