RV Plus Card

Can the Good Sam / Flying J / Pilot Travel Centers RV Plus card be used at Road Ranger stations that also display (prominently) the Pilot Travel Centers logo?

I got my RV Plus card about two months ago and tried to use it for the first time today at two different Road Ranger / Pilot Travel Center stations in two different states. Both times, the card came back 'Sale Declined' on the pump display. I believe the card has been properly activated because I got my first statement (showing a zero balance) almost a month ago.

Anyone have any ideas why I get 'Sale Declined' on my new card?

  • No problem, I'm glad to help! Yes, you can use the RV Plus Card at the pump in both the RV lanes and the regular gas lanes without going inside. However, if for some reason the pump won't start, you will need to go inside to make sure you get your discount. Please let me know if you have any other questions!

    Thanks and safe travels!
  • Thanks for the info. I do have a question. I have the card coming and never have used one before. But there is a flying j we use on the way to one of our favorite places. It does have a couple rv lanes to the side. We have used those lanes before, but we had a long TT and truck and couldn't fit in the other places as the truck was not diesel. We now have a motorhome which is not diesel either. Do we need to still use those rv lanes to get it to work without having to go inside? Can we use the regular gas lanes as well or will we have to go inside for those transactions?
  • I'm a representative for the RV Plus Card, and I wanted to address the questions and issues mentioned in this forum.

TerryM86- I'm so sorry that both of your transactions came back "Sale Declined"! To answer your initial question, yes, the RV Plus Card can be used at Road Ranger stations. That being said, since it is a dealer location, the card can only be used in truck diesel lanes. You could have received the decline message if you were trying to use a pump where the card isn't accepted. Also, there's a chance that your card hasn't been activated. If you want to send me your name and account number in a private message I can check on that for you.

Wbwood- Road Ranger is one of our dealers, which is why their website says that they're partnered with Pilot Travel Centers. The RV Plus Card doesn't work at only Flying J; it actually works at all company owned and dealer locations.

Twmw1126- It sounds like you heard some incorrect information- I apologize for that! Privately owned dealers DO have to honor the RV Plus Card, but as I told TerryM86, at dealer locations the card only works at the truck diesel lanes.

Sdianel- I'm sorry you had issues with your transaction! We actually have several locations with RV-only lanes that have the auto-start feature. You can find all of these locations in our RV Travel Guide, which you can download at pilotflyingj.com or I can send you a hard copy. All truck lanes allow you to pay outside, regardless if it is a company owned or dealer location. If for some reason the pump doesn't want to work then you'll have to go inside, like you did in the transaction you mentioned. However, you don't have to prepay- instead, you just need to authorize the pump and scan your RV Plus Card. You will need to go back inside the store after you finish fueling to get your receipt.

Our RV Travel Guide lists all of our locations and each station's RV amenities and whether or not it's a dealer location, so I definitely recommend getting a copy if you don't already have one. As I told Sdianel, you can download a copy at pilotflyingj.com. Once you're on the site, hover your mouse over "RVs" in the title bar, and then click "RV Home" in the dropdown. When the new page comes up, you'll see where to click to download the RV Travel Guide. If you would prefer a printed copy, please send me a direct message with your name and account number, and I'll get one sent to you.

    Thanks and safe travels!
  • Also we found at Pilot, not all the truck pumps have the option to start the pump. You have to go inside and prepay then go back in to get the receipt. We couldn't fit in their "auto diesel" lane with our toad, so went to the truck lanes. Big problem. Didn't get our discount. Had to file complaint to get our discount. Some truck lanes have added a couple of lanes for RVers to use that have the auto start feature using the RV Plus card. One more suggestion in the suggestion box!!
  • Something I found out at a Samboree this past weekend was the card will work all the time at Flying J but at Pilot it will only work at a company store. If store is privately owned they don't have to honor the card. It is there call and if those stores that do honor them you have to go inside to use. This came from a Flying J/Pilot rep at a seminar.
  • So I called the number on the card. It turns out that the card only works on the diesel pumps in the truck lanes at Road Ranger stations.

I was told that Road Ranger is a 'dealer' for Pilot Flying J and only services diesel at those locations. At 'regular' Pilot and Flying J locations, the card should work at all pumps. I guess the key is to make sure the pump you select has the Pilot or Flying J logo on it. At the Road Ranger stations, the gas pumps did NOT have either logo, only the diesel pumps in back had the Pilot logo.
  • Went to the Road Ranger website and down at the bottom it says they are partnered with Pilot Travel Centers. Not sure if there is something hidden behind that. But perhaps the Flying J card can only work at Flying J?
