Should I subscribe to GSRA or not?

Sincere question here.

I bought my first RV yesterday (a class C) and we're planning to take a trip next month. The guy who sold me the RV told me I should join Good Sam Club, so here I am, but reading these threads has given me cold feet. The whole point of the service is to give you peace of mind while on the road, but how can you have peace of mind after reading all these complaints?

It is true that most satisfied customers will keep their experience to themselves, while disappointed people will want to shout it from the rooftops.

So, set my mind at ease here. Should I subscribe to this, or just forget it?
  • Stdout,

Yes the memberships are separate and both provide benefits to reduce stress and costs that area associated with traveling. Please see below to the links of the two different programs to compare the benefits.

    Good Sam: www.goodsamclub.com
    Road Side Assistance: www.goodsamroadside.com

  • we have coach net ,only because of the stories on here, I think when a person files a complaint on here and GS people step in to help ,they should post the out come of the complaint, with out knowing the out come how do we know if GS is better or worse than another company.
  • I would difinitely get one of the ERS plans. Good Sam, Coachnet, and AAA are probably the most common although there are other options also. Do your research and flip a coin.
  • Congrats on your new camper. I hope you have many fun and safe adventures.

Yes - get some kind of roadside assistance plan. We had good service from GSRA (used it a couple times). We don't have it now because our new MH came with CoachNet.

Even if you decide to go with another company for roadside assistance, you can still join GoodSamClub.
  • Thank you for your quick answers. You have given me needed reassurance.

One more question, if I may, and this feels like I should know the answer to this but I'm having trouble confirming it. Do you have to sign up for this separately from your Good Sam membership? It looks like you signup for the $25 per year membership in the club. Then you separately signup for the roadside assistance which is $69.95/yr for the standard version. Am I understanding that right?
  • some have good luck with the service, others not so good. As was said I would not travel without some kind of coverage
  • We have been members for many, many years.
    Have used it 3 times.
A lock out that took about an hour.:)
Motor Home tow that took about an hour.:)
A flat tire on the Jeep that took 3 hours.:M
  • I wouldn't travel the RV without some kind of roadside assistance plan that caters to RVs. We've been using GSRA for over 9 years with no problems - all of our calls have been tire-related, and only once did we wait more than an hour for help. That time we were literally in the middle of nowhere. Other folks have had other experiences. But I think the vast majority of GSRA customers either have had no bad experiences or haven't had to use it.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

  • Hello Stdout,
Congratulations on the big purchase yesterday. I also appreciate your concern in our products and memberships. Do you have any specific concerns that you would liked addressed?

    Thanks,
    Tom
