Stranded Twice from GSRA.

Back in 2012 I was driving in Arizona and my Awning came unraveled and I was unable to proceed down the road. I called GSRA and asked if they could get someone out to remove the awning and dispose of it. After an hours wait, I received a call telling me that they could not find anyone to help - sorry. It was getting dark and the traffic was flying by. So I climbed on the roof and took care of the problem. I did not plan to renew with GSRA, but somehow I was placed on automatic renewal and my credit card was charged. I let it go thinking maybe the awning thing was a fluke and maybe they weren't that bad.

June 2014 driving down freeway in Gettysburg Pa. I noticed that one of my rear tires had lost air. I was near my campground for the night. I called GSRA and told them I needed air in my tire and to check my valve extenders as I think it came loose. The Gal on the phone said they would have to buy a new tire and replace the one on the coach. I told her the tire was fine I just needed it air up and checked. Nope can't do that must replace tire at my cost. Needless to say I told them where to take their tire.

I feel that by using Allstate as there contact they have lowered their standards as allstate is the company for roadside assistanc. I had a truck come and paid the bill to fix what was a loose valve extender.

I will never use good sams again

  • my daughter had the same problem with my motorhome,BUT we have that coach company, no problem in less than an hour service was there ,took two hrs to fix, and she was on her way.
  • I have Allstate and there was no problem getting roadside assistance 2 months ago, although it was in a population center (Springfield MO, I-44) at the time. I hope my experience was not a fluke!
  • My understanding is that they do not air up tires nor repair them. I would imagine a check would go into the repair side. They will change out an inflated spare tire that is already mounted on a wheel. If you have a spare tire and need it mounted on your flat tire spare, then you will be charged for that. I believe the rate isaround $150. If you don't have a spare, they will attempt to find one for you, but you will be charged for it. This is why we purchased our own spare and another wheel. While I spent $350 on it ($200 tire/$150 wheel), I much would rather pay that up front and not have to spend over $200 for a spare tire to include the additional wait time.

As far as the awniing goes..all they would do would be to try to find you a mobile mechanic that you would have to pay out of your pocket. It's just a concierge service. You stated it was getting dark. I would imagine that most RV mobile mechanics probably were not available. Location and other variables could come into play.

If one mobile mechanic was available that would be all that was needed.

The OP's profile states he is in Ca, the Company you are referring to (coach company) is no longer allowed to accept new members in California, only renew existing policies per the State.

He could of found one himself as well. I don't think Good Sam is going to look up the yellow pages for them. I think they have a list they operate off of.

It seems they need to expand their list.
