Value of Coast to Coast

I've seen a couple of comments from others indicating the believe there is no value in Coast to Coast. I just felt the need to throw my opinion into the mix.

We have FTed for 7 years, and have received what I consider a good value for my money through C2C as one of our memberships. As a general rule, the C2C affiliated parks we have stayed at have been welcoming and very pleasant. We have stayed in some very desirable locations where we were amazed we could stay for $10 nightly. The Black Hills, Gettysburg, Colorado etc. all quickly come to mind. I suspect that part of the value is dependent for many on how much their yearly dues are for their home park. Ours happen to be very reasonable.

Many of the affiliates do charge $2 or $3 additional dollars for 50amp, or "resort fees", but I've always found it up front--in the C2C website description or the C2C yearly book.

We have also found a couple of affiliated parks over the years that left a lot to be desired. One with severe power problems that went unaddressed, another with a sewer problem. C2C doesn't own these parks, so its nice to have a new avenue with this forum to at least bring it to their attention. I have no reason to believe that C2C wants parks it affiliates with to present unsafe conditions to the member. Their is no payoff for C2C, but they can't respond to what they don't know.

We have also experienced a park or two that held a half dozen or so beat up or "shoe horned" sites for C2C members. And then if those few sites were taken, no C2C allowed. Its not a safety issue, and may or may not be allowed by C2C's affiliate agreement, I don't know. But we just choose to not go their again when the general feeling you are given is that your a 2nd or 3rd class RVer if your using C2C.

We get asked often by folks we meet, once they know we FT, our opinion of campground clubs. I tell them in my opinion, if we only had two (which we are getting close to), they would be C2C and Passport. There has not been a year go by that we don't make up our membership costs many times over.

And just to be clear, I have absolutely no connections with C2C or Affinity. I just know that the forums tend to get posts the most by people who have an issue going on. So I think its important to throw out a positive if that's ones experience.

So thanks for this new C2C forum! Hopefully, when the moderators get a chance, they will be able to move some of the threads on here to more appropriate topics to keep it clean. Its new, and it appears that there will be a learning curve as what the topic "Coast to Coast" is actually all about.

  • My comment - a few years ago we stayed at one of the "shoe-horned" sites - an affiliated park that had 2-3 back end sites for C2C members. After we left we attended a GS Rally and during one seminar we met the C2C authority charged with inspecting their affiliates. We mentioned our problem with this particular park and were assured it would be looked into. The following year the C2C Directory did NOT contain the park in question!! Thank you C2C!

I've been a member for 12 years, however I won't be renewing my membership again. C2C has ceased to require resorts to follow the rules, many of the resorts are of very low quality and the system is increasingly unable to retain resorts in the system. I would think twice before making an investment in order to get access to C2C.

cKarlGo, I think your decision makes perfect sense. If you have an issue that has not been resolved to your satisfaction, as you mentioned in your other thread, at some point that is the ultimate control we have as purchasers.

I guess the only area I would disagree with at all is your statement that "many of the resorts are of very low quality". We have run across a couple during all our years of FTing that I would put in that category. But we have probably stayed in C2C parks in 25 to 30 states and provinces that would not meet that definition in our opinion.

But then again, differences of opinion helps make the world go round.

No, your point is very well taken. I should have put geographical limitations on that statement. i.e. Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina & Pennsylvania.

South Carolina has lost all of its resorts except for one (one of them only stayed in the system for a year before dropping out). The remaining one is, while not dreadful, very worn and less than desirable for a number of reasons. Another in Virginia, which was a fun destination the second year that I was a member, has completely disintegrated in recent years. The last time I stayed there, the power was so bad that I couldn't run my microwave even with all the other electrical appliances turned off. These are just a couple of examples.

To be frank, I don't expect things to improve, but expect more of the same and worse with Camping World in control. My observation has been that Good Sam/Camping World deals with individual issues brought up here in the name of publicity, while tolerating systemic problems that plague them across the spectrum of their businesses. It's hard to believe that this is by anything other than design, which is why I, like so many others, do not do business there except as a last resort.

  • A few things figure into value......

    Buy RESALE
    Use it

We bought a home park & C2C Deluxe membership for $950
Have use it for over 6 yrs.

    Did we get value.....you bet.
