1157 pigtail for license plate light

We just purchased a 1988 Elite and as I was checking things out I found the license plate light was connected to a pigtail coming out of the 1157 bulb. Now all is well and good but the wiring is frayed and will soon need replaced. I would also like to replace these old bulbs with LED. Does anyone know where I can find a similar pigtail setup coming out of the bulb?

Thanks!!
Sam

Please help out the next guy by telling us what the fix was.

I had assumed the wire was soldered to the SOCKET where the other wires connect......and all you would need was a new piece of wire.

  • As said above, you use LEAds to save power, how much power do you use with a turn signal. 1157 bulb won't kill your battery while your turning a corner.
  • You need to be careful replacing turn signals with LED.....as they usually will flash too fast without a new flasher or the addition of a resistor.

I personally think that is a waste of time and money as the 1157's do a fine job. Getting new fresh 1157s and cleaning out the sockets and lenses would probably accomplish more.

Also, most auto parts stores have "stuff" often in a section called HELP! which is part of Dorman Products. You might have good luck there.
