1500 Watt Heaters

We use a space heater when needed to save on the propane. Question is, do all 1500 space heaters produce the same amount of heat? I would guess the answer would be yes, since 1500 watts is 1500 watts, but i could be wrong.
  • 1500 watts is 1500 watts. All of the energy you are paying for is staying in your living area. Most small elec heaters are 1200 to 1500 watts because people are going to plug them into a regular wall socket that is rated at 15 amps on a 14 gauge wire. This is found by using Ohms law. One of Ohms laws states that Volts (120) x amps (15) equals 1800 (watts). Some circuits are wired with 12 gauge wire and are rated at 20 amps. 120 V x 20 A +2400 watts.

Some companies will advertise their electric heaters as being more energy efficient and add statements like "when you turn off heat to other rooms". If you have 2 - 600 watt heaters running its the same as one 1200 watt heater.

If you have a $30.00 dollar heater running at 1200 watts and a $130.00 heater running at 1200 watts they are both putting the same amount of energy (heat) into the room. One may last longer than the other but now days that is often not true. They are often all junk.
  • A lot might depend on how that heat is directed. Baseboard heaters and oil heaters are silent, and the hot air rises straight up over the hot element. But another heater with a fan and louvers that aim the heat to where you want it might seem warmer. Other heaters provide reflectors that then radiate through the air like a fire on a cold day. The air between the fire and you is not warmed, but the radiated heat striking your body is very warm.
  • Yes ALL 1500w heaters produce the same BTU.

Your choice of Radiant, Fan, or Convection. I use a 1200w radiator style convection.
  • We placed a wooden rolling kitchen cart up against the kitchen counter and then placed a silent DeLonghi SafeHeat convection heater up against it. It has two switches... flip one on for Low and flip both on for high.

The entire wooden cart gathers heat so it's all warm to the touch and radiates that heat all the way around.
This is the exact heater we have.

I use wool area rugs over the carpet in the MH and just roll them up when we bring in the slides. Makes a huge difference in here to have them.

I don't like the oil filled heaters. I've only known a couple of people that had them but I never felt any warmth in the room from them. Could have been because they were in 5th wheels and the floors were so darned cold.

If it gets really cold, I'll place a small heater at the top of the steps and aim it at the front door to force the cold air up instead of letting it come in across the floor.
  • A 1,500-watt space heater would produce roughly 5,120 BTUs of heat per hour.
  • While 1500 is 1500. I feel an oil filled heater does a better job of heating the room. Why? Because it NEVER cools off. Once the oil is ho, it stays hot until you turn it off. There is none of the on till hot, and off till cold, cycle going on. There is just a constant heat. It never stops heating.

Also. A ceiling fan turning REAL slow, pushing air UP really helps out. That moves the heat off the ceiling, and to the floor.
