- gonesouthExplorerI did the same thing when the dash A/C compressor seized and took out the belt on the 425HP CAT in my Beaver Marquis. Luckily, Brett Wolfe came to my aid and advised that the water pump was gear driven and all I had to worry about was keeping up the charge on the chassis battery to limp to a service place. Had to get a new idler to take up slack and a brand new belt. Done for me by a shop in Bethel, PA. They were magnificent! As was Brett! I was back on the road the next morning.

Are you sure all F53 460’s came with a smog pump? I thought I read the 97 chassis didn’t, but I may be wrong.
Yes all 460 F53s came with AIR (smog pump). One of my customers had a 97 winnie on a 97 F53 chassis with AIR.
Not all 460 F53s has catalytic converters. No converter for 94-97 chassis.

Rock Auto lists a replacement smog pump for the '97 F53, but I didn't dig any farther... - cm2785ExplorerAre you sure all F53 460’s came with a smog pump? I thought I read the 97 chassis didn’t, but I may be wrong.
- Dutch_12078Explorer IIYou're very welcome, Richard... But it's 8℉ here right now, so a hot cup of coffee will do nicely! ;)
- RLS7201Explorer IIIssue resolved. Dutch was spot on with the 47.5" belt.
Thanks a bunch Dutch, I owe you a cold one or 2 or 3 or 4.

Take a piece of light rope or twine and measure the length by wrapping it around the pullies.
Yep, that works!
I had to do that on a 460 in a 1995 Tioga (E350 chassis) when the A/C clutch pulley bearings seized. It worked.
That's an old school trick. The only thing you need to make sure is the adjustment pulley is not all the way out. - mowermechExplorer

In case anyone else runs into the problem, as Richard now knows from another forum post, the correct belt appears to be a 47.5" Dayco #5060475 or equivalent 6-rib belt.
460 air pump delete - what belt??
Dutch, I just found the belt lay out for a 95 F350 460 and you are nuts on! The A/C & PS pump are different but the alternator & AIR look the same.
Thank again
