1999 Four winds infinity class C

I just inherited this, I took it in they said I need new tires and since the back tires are doubled up in each side make it harder to do and quoted 2000? Also needs new breaks, on the way to drop off my foot was hitting floor and barely stopped. They said it would be another 3000. They also said I have a leak in gas line? How hard is that to find and replace? They also said I had mold from a leak and would need new walls. Total cost to fix over 12000, does that sound right?

I have remodeled houses how hard would it be to gut and replace walls?

Thanks
  • If you like BIG projects, most of those are DIY, but some require a bit of experience !

The parts to do a COMPLETE front barke job, (rotors, ceramic pads, full hardware and hoses) would be well under $500 (online, RockAuto). Not difficult, but not really a job for first timers. At that age, the back brakes are likely no good either. Probably about the same for parts, but a bit more complicated.

While you are at it I highly recommend replacing all of the metal brake lines. Again, not hard (especially if you use NiCopp brake line), but not a job for first timers.

The fuel line would be a bit more DIY. There a a couple of videos on YouTube on how to replace steel fuel lines with nylon (skip the fancy press tool and just heat the tubing with boiling water to press on the fittings). Replace as much of the fuel line as possible without having to do additional splices.

The water damage could be the KILLER ! If there is rot in the walls, there is likely rot in the floor. Depending on how far the rot has gotten this could be the end.

You are right to be suspicious! Run away!!! You can junk the RV for no cost, or if you want it, you can fix it for a lot less than those crooks want.

Just got new back tires for ours in January. Total cost including tax for four new back tires installed (KumCrugen sp? H51s LT 215/85R16 size) $774.96 Can. or about $581 US. They are not Michelins, but they are plenty good enough for this job.

IMO go to a real tire shop. Same with the brakes. Take it somewhere else and get a LP gas certification for the RV--they will advise what needs to be done there if anything.

Bleach kills mould. Try that first. Put some in a Windex type spray bottle and spray away. There must be a leak in the roof to get water damage in the walls. You can reseal the roof edges and end caps your self if you are handy at all.
  • I think they are trying to take advantage of you. I am getting 7 new tires (including spare) balanced and installed Tuesday for $1435. So I know that your tire quote is a rip off.
  • Tires 1500, Brakes, foot hitting floor? Master cylinder? 500 ish, new rotors calipers, new rear shoes maybe another 1500 more or less, (although they could be fine, calipers etc) Could just be the master cylinder. Gas leak, I have no knowledge, could just be a piece of rubber hose somewhere

Rebuild walls? probably not worth it. Thing in great condition only worth 9, 10 k. I would stop the leaks as best I could, bleach the mold, and just drive the thing. Or option two, sell it for 5k let the next guy deal with it. ( you would have to a least make it safe though, in my opinion.

Sounds like you are at an RV dealer, get away from them, take it to your local mechanic
