2002 Sahara Safari 40' no start or dash lights

Hope someone can help..... my unit wont even give me dash lights or anything when i turn the key. It's as if there are NO batteries! There must be a breaker etc that i can't find! Interior lights all work, panel shows full battery. I don't have a manual and for the life of me can't figure out what to check next. Dealership is 100 miles away. Can anyone point me in a direction to start?
Thanks
  • Is there a salesmans switch, just inside the door, near the passenger seat? Someone could have hit it.
  • yes understand the 2 different banks of batteries....starter batteries show 12.8v at the terminals....
I've been looking for the location of the "master" switch....and can't find it.....

No lights on the dash at all.....

Is that measured on the battery posts or on the cable ends ?
There is a difference and it can be important.

Check your fuses. There might be a master fuse too.

It is possible that your ignition switch has gone bad......but highly unlikely.

There is a fuse for the ignition switched functions but not for the starter circuit itself.

Don't make this harder than it IS.

    There are two SEPARATE batteries:
One (set) runs the stuff in the coach.
The other one runs the engine and it's systems.

In your case, the one that serves the engine has a problem; either it just simply went dead....maybe because someone left a dome light on....or there is a bad connection at one of the posts.

Many models have an "emergency" switch for exactly this situation. If you hold the switch, it connects the two batteries together hopefully allowing you to start the engine off the coach batteries.

If you do NOT have that switch, carrying a set of jumper cables or a portable jump-start rechargeable battery is a good idea.
  • Thanks, yes started yesterday....no problem. Engine is a 350 Diesel Cummins

Would there be a fuse or something coming from the starter battery?
  • I would start by checking the engine battery or batteries. Check voltage, clean terminals, tight terminals. It is possible that there is a loose/corroded cable. Interior lights are fed from the coach batteries not the engine battery. It also would be beneficial to others if you were to give more vehicle information. JMO
